GS1000 "spare hole" dilemma

Well, since the oil fill idea seems to be a goer, how about attaching it to the old clutch cable perch with a lanyard?

yeah i have been looking at it now and think.........do i really need another oil fill cap. the breather hose attachment on the original oil filler unscrews in about 5 seconds and it is not like i am going to be topping it up with oil very often.

so i think i will just go with the blanking plug. i can get one of these.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sports-Al...erSports&var=480236776325&hash=item2a2cb5bc5a

for a few quid which will fit in nicely, has grooves for a suitable o ring and can be secured from inside the cover with a simple grub screw

I think the oil/filler cap breather is an untidy solution to something that might or might not actually be needed. Why not use the filler as a filler with conventional cap and run the breather out of the redundant clutch hole in solid pipe till its out of sight?
You do nice work I'm sure you could work it out.

although i dont think the breather is "untidy" i actually quite like it.
But....you have a point about running it from the spare hole. i will look into what fittings i can get/make and what pipe i can use.
(i am thinking off the top of my head 13mm copper pipe now)

Or some of that thin walled Stainless aircraft type pipe? Tight radius and run it straight under the carbs out of sight to where you want it. :)

yeah that sounds good, i will have to research into what fittings i can adapt onto the top of the cover. i dont want it to end up looking like a cheap bodged plumbing job gone wrong.........

red button with question mark on it wired to air horn bolted to the cable mount, park in public place and watch ppl's reactions

first mock up, using copper pipe for now as its cheaper than stainless to mess about with until i get it right..........

Could it be made lower to the case, maybe elbow there instead, run forward, maybe angled a bit and then up between the carb stubs?

i could drop it lower by an inch and run it forwards at an angle, like you say...

but, as i said, i dont want it to look like a plumbers jigsaw kit with elbows etc.
the fitting fits nice in the hole and and has a nice flange on the bottom that fits well on the cover. i am going to turn down the hex to a nice tapered flange.

Last thing you want it to do is look inelegant, what about an elbow hose tail with a flex? easy to spin down a tube with flange and o rings goes into the hole push fit, hose tail 90 degrees off that and any tubing plain black, fancy braid?

but that would defeat your idea of running it all hard pipe. i may as well just keep the braided hose breather i already have......

The color of the fittings should be the color of the engine. Clean up the fitting and maybe drop the horizontal tube about a half inch. Maybe use thicker od tube? The bends look right. Or if you can get tubing that is the same size as the hole and eliminate the nut altogether.
