Could someone tell me what the front tire size is supposed to be for a 78 GS1000E?

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The bike came with a 3.50V-19 on the front. The wheel is 1.85" wide. It's almost universal here on GSR to run a 100/90-19 on the front, the width will be basically same as stock.
For the rear you should have a 2.50 x 17" rear wheel which can take a 120 or 130 width tire - most GSR'ers run the 130.

Thank you for the information! My speedometer seems to be off by 10-15 MPH I thought maybe I had the wrong size tire on the front but that is not the problem . I guess I will just have to get used to it.

Our 78 1000 is also about 10 mph optimistic, must be a bad batch of bikes.

I would guess it probably has something to do with the JAPS and the metric system.:-# LOL
All joking aside, the speedometer works off magnetism; a rotating steel dome inside the speedometer spins as the cables turns and the needle gets pulled along by a magnetic pickup. The needle itself works against a spring so depending on the spring force, the speedo can read high or low (which is most common). Frankly, I'm amazed the crazy things are as accurate as they are.

Before we put new tires on my wife's bike several years ago, it had a 90/90-19 (I think that was the stock size) and the speedo was off by several MPH. I installed a 100/90-19 to slow down the speedo and now it's near perfect. At an indicated 70, the GPS shows about 69.2. Odometer accuracy is about as close, too. The last trip we were on, the odometer showed about 1400 miles, the GPS showed about 1420.
Both of those errors are VERY tolerable in my book.

The odometer is direct geared so it should be accurate. The speedo on the other hand...
