    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Do your turn signals flash when the ignition is turned to on but the bike isn't running? On my bike, the turn signals will light up but not flash when the ignition's on but the motor's not running. Is this normal? With the bike running the signals will flash.

Practically everything electrical except for the turn signal relay is brand new on the bike this year - battery, wiring harness, r/r, stator, fuse box, and the turn signals so should I get a new turn signal relay too? Or is this standard behavior for the signal relay? FWIW I tried a new electronic turn signal relay from the auto parts store tonight and it didn't work at all - no lights, no flashing.

sounds like U are right at the hairy edge. Relay requires a certain amount of current to cause it to flash. You have higher current when running than not. Could be a few things:

1.) Battery voltage is lower than idling (charging) voltage

2.) grounds to the motor mounts are not as good as frame ground for R/R.

If you battery is good try running a battery (-) ground to the frame and see if that helps.

That can be normal, depending on the flasher, battery and other things that affect the voltage. With the key on, the headlight and coils are sapping power out of the battery, leaving maybe 11 volts. This might not be enough to get the flasher to work. When the bike is running, you should have over 12 volts, preferably closer to 13 or 14, making the flasher much happier.

Have you measured the voltage at the battery with a meter? Try it and let us know what you find.

They should flash without the motor running.
As said earlier, it sounds like you don't have enough voltage to make it flash unless the motor is running.
 
Just for kicks, pull the headlight fuse & try it again, see if turning off the current draw from the headlight, changes the problem
 
Freshly charged off the trickle charger, the battery reads 13V with a multimeter. With the key turned on but the motor off and the headlight disconnected, the turn signals will flash forever and the voltage drops to 12.5V and stays there. If you plug the headlight back in, the turn signals quit blinking. With the motor on and at charging RPM (3000+ RPM or so) the voltage at the battery is 14.0V and the signals work. So I guess the bike does have to be running in this case for the turn signals to work if the headlight is connected. Thanks for the help.

You didn't mention but are these LED or incandescent bulb t/s? Couldn't tell from the picture.

Since you said they are new check your t/s ground.
