    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi guys , i'm having some issues with my gs1000 i recently bought , i took a chance and bought it unseen from photos on ebay , the seller sounded a genuine guy but turns out he was very flattering with its discription and as often is the case it looked much better in the pics , its not that bad but someones stripped it down and had the frame powdercoted then rebuilt with new stainless bolts and thrown away the originals ! i know its not that bad but it bugs me ! worse though is the wiring loom , someones had a real go at it and it has those cheap looking connectors everywhere rather than the correct type plugs etc , amazingly though everything seems to work !
my main problem seems to be a spark issue , when it first arrived i started it up and it did run but very roughly ! not on all cylinders most of the time , ive now found that its down to a spark problem although it must have been intermittent at first as it was coming on all four at times it now seems like ive lost spark to the middle two (2 + 3 ) althogether now ! its the 1000et model that i have so it has electronic ignition , i suspected a coil at first so swapped the feed wires and got spark so i dont have power coming up to coil 2 + 3 , after checking for broken wires etc i then thought the problem either lies in the cdi unit or the pick up coils , i looked into replacements and although both parts are still available the cdi unit was around ?450 and the pick up around ?200 , the cdi unit looked rather suspect as the metal casing was very rusty and the little circuit board inside looked like it was corroded ! so when i spotted an nos one on ebay with a buy it now of ?100 i grabbed it in the hope of a cure , sadly it hasnt helped infact things seem to be worse now with only a very weak spark at one of the plugs but this is the same which ever cdi box is plugged in , im now pointing the finger at the pick up , like a said i can buy a replacement for ?200 but i would like to know that this is definately the problem before spending more money ! does this sound like a pick up problem ? do they fail ? is there anything else i can look at that ive over looked ? thanks in advance andy

ive now fitted a harris works exhaust and those red r+r rear shocks have to go ! :lol:
i just missed out on a nice original front mudguard as well :( but for now i'd be happy just to get it running !
 
After trouble shooting the problem, if replacement is needed, as Dyna S is cheaper and more reliable alternative to OEM ignition

a basic question - are you getting 12V at the coils?

to be honest im not sure , how do i test this ? i do have a multimeter but have very little experience or knowledge of them , i did use it to do some continuity tests to check for a broken wire but thats about as far as i go with it :oops: , what will this tell me if there isnt 12 volts at the coils ? i do know that power isnt coming up one pair of coil feed wires
 
ok , a big thanks for the link that was posted , i havent cured it yet but i have found out that i do have power coming to both coils , 12 volts at each , the tests also suggest that the pick up and igniter box are also ok , this leaves me with coils , the tests say i should get 30-35 ohms when i put the probes in each spark plug cap from the same coil , im only getting around 12 , also says when i test the coil feed wires i should have 2-5 ohms and i cant get a reading at all , the frame has been powder coated so im wondering if its a bad earth or if the coils are shot ? would a bad earth give me the poor reading im getting ?
 
Best to unplug coils and first test for primary resistance across the spade (or bullet) connectors on each coil- should be 3 to 5 ohm. Then remove plug caps from spark plug wires and test across them (stick meter probes in plug wires)- plug wire to plug wire should be about 12 kohms ( 12000 ohms- make sure you understand meter scales). It's tricky to measure over plug cap to plug cap due to corrosion, but it might be 24 kohms to 35 kohms.
