Hi

I bought a wiring harness for my gs1000g it was advertised as for a 1980 gs1000g and it looks like this, on the instrument end are a load of bullet connectors and a pair of small block connectors with a couple of wires each

s-l1600.jpg

maybe it is the same harness as seen in this parts list diagram

https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partsl...-e01-wiring-harness_bigsue0244fig-48_de3b.gif

The thing is that the instrument cluster has two block connectors on it with lots of wires being fed into them, like on this picture

http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/v7YAAOSwaEhZEEwU/s-l1600.jpg

but the wiring diagram says that there should be a single block connector

I am just wondering how it all connects up

Cheers

Dave

it looks like you still have the white sticker with OEM number.
That would help determining what model bike the loom is meant for.

I think I am starting to understand it a bit more, this GS850 manual is very useful

http://zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/GS850_Manual_HiRes.pdf (page 149)

Seems for the GS850GD that the cable harness goes into the headlamp and then out from there. The diagram is just missing the instrument cluster wiring unfortunately, it also seems to disagree with the wiring diagram as there is no large connector block in the headlamp.

The other thing is that the old harness seems to have a branch that doubles back to the battery, however the parts list for this model do not show a separate harness branch.

I will have a look at the label later.

Cheers

Dave

I think I have this type of instrument cluster on my GS1000G

In these image I can identify the wires, they seem to be pretty much all the wires mentioned in the wiring diagram going to the connector

In this image you can see a connector with wires that I cannot locate in the wiring diagram, for instance there seems to be no white, yellow/blue, red/black, green wire in the wiring diagram anywhere near the instrument cluster region?

UPDATE: Maybe this is the gear indicator connection

more wiring harness thoughts

more wiring harness thoughts

The old wiring harness as well as having connectors for the instruments has a separate branch off the main harness which leads back towards the battery area. I have been unable to find mention of this wiring harness anywhere except seeing it in the GS850 manual (eg. parts lists for the model all have wiring harnesses with a single branch). Still confused about which is the right harness for my model.

Basically I think that my harness is missing the gear indicator branch, is this a common thing?
