GS1000G "project"

So what started as a "buy-and-ride", turned out to be a small(ish) cleanup project.

Spending the weekend dismantling Sue, I've come across some filthy things... No, really...

His carbs are nearly completely taken apart; they seemed pretty clean in the beginning... But the main jets were so dirty they were stuck! Nr3 was the worst, with even the washer glued in place by a layer of gunk.

Nr3 Pilot Jet will have to be replaced (once I figure out a way to get it out of there!); some previous "mechanic" used all his strength on it, and now no screwdriver of ANY sort can get a hold of its near-flattened head...

The screw that holds onto the choke rail at the nr1 carb, is also FUBAR... as in, completely disintegrated - except of course, the point that keeps the rail from sliding out.

Nr2 carb; that piston that was stuck, was literally glued in place by old petrol residue. Got that loosened up eventually, with no harm done to any components.

In the end, Sue has become my second "project". Not that I'm complaining, what better way to learn?

Nice to see another G getting new life breathed into it.
Seems to be a flood of 1000G's on the project board lately, maybe the rest of the crowd are waking up to the facts and realizing which the best GS really is.

So an update on the carbs: Had to buy a "new" carb for nr3 today, that pilot jet was fudged up so bad, not even a well-oiled mech could remove it.

So now Sue has a "new" nr3 carb. Hell this is fun, ain't it? :lol::lol::lol:

Turns out April's a rather busy month for me... Not getting much time to spend with Sue, and it's really, really, REALLY frustrating

Nr3 carb had to be totally replaced, after some previous nitwit all but destroyed the idle jet... It was so bad, not even the 'pro' could remove it from its seat...

So now I have a spare carb body (which I scheme will be getting a new purpose, soon's I get 'round to it )

Went to visit in Joburg last weekend - my Sue has a ladyfriend, one that's much younger than he is (and rather sexy, if you ask me):

Seat on that Gixxer's so low, if I stand, I'm a good ten to fifteen centimetres above it! (Much lighter than Sue, though). Pillion seat kills your ass :-#

Don't you just LOVE crappy internet connections? Wrote a nice post - wham! Gone.

Attempt Two, then:

Sue had to take a back seat for a while - I can only work on one project at a time! - and it pains me to see him standing there, all naked like that...

But, Skortie needs to get back on the road, STAT.

Skortie's a 1979 Mk2 Escort 1.6; he's got the heart of a lion, that little car... I love him to bits!

Sue will be getting more attention soon, hopefully - I'll keep you lot posted
