    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000G Rear brake pedal frozen

About a year ago when I put my bike in storage, a I had a tough time getting the brake pedal to return. Now that I have the bike out the breake pedal is completely frozen. Have check the pads and they seen to move (with a screw driver) that is they are not frozen to the rotor. Regardless oof how much I pull up on the pedal I can only get about a 1/4 inch of movement.
Help! I want to start riding this bike again. Any suggestions?

take the cotter pin and clevis pin out of the rod to the rear master and see if it will move then. if it doesn't move, fix the rear pedal pivot.
 
The brake lever either fits to a shaft or has a shaft fitted to it which rotates in the frame. This is never lubricated so after a while seizes in the frame. Happen on GS's even when they were new.

Remove the split pin of the rear brake master where it joins the brake pedal pivoting in the frame. Then remove the brake lever (you may have to take the footpeg off also!) and tap the pivoting section from the frame. It will either go in (pedal removed) or out (pin with brake lever.)

Give it a good clean up and refit. (Mine years ago had a hole drilled in it and a grease nipple fitted to allow it to be greased.)

Pedal will also seems seized if the master cylinder and/or the caliper piston(s) are stuck. If they are, tear them down and clean them out. Pretty simple task.
 
Suggestions 1 and 2 were followed. End result is that pivot was removed, wire-brushed, lubricated and replaced. Good success. Thanks for the help. Rear brake works fine. Took some effort with spray lubricant and a hammer, (carefully) but it finally broke free.
