Please make adjustments in your profile to show where you are.

By some of your terminology, I'm guessing that you are nowhere close enough for me to show up, but someone else might be close. :o

.

Stage 3? So what kind of setup are you running for intake/exhaust? Not stock I'm assuming.

my garage is located in Brooklyn, NY. i don't know of any GS riders here.
also everyone thinks i am completely insane for rebuilding this thing. I think the gs is a beautiful bike.
BUT i cant get it running. Okey is it important to have the breath hoses connected for tuning purpose and also can you tune with out a gas tank installed.

For the Intake i am running Individual Filters.
My exhaust if completely stock.
no engine mods. ton of rewiring and clean connections.

Hi,

You can do without the breather hoses since you no longer have an airbox. Turn the vent tubes so that they point down.

When you rebuilt the carbs, did you completely disassemble them (LIKE THIS) and soak all the bodies and metal bits in carb dip for up to 24 hours each?

The Stage 3 kit is designed for pod filters and a free-flowing (V&H 4-n-1 or similar) exhaust. There is a chance that the jetting is a bit rich. Start with the smallest jets in the kit and see how it works. Keep us informed.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Are you getting gas to the spark plugs? Do you have spark? Do you have compression?

@ BassCliff: You think the smaller jets with bigger needle is a good mix? a little strange. also i have fallowed instructions step by step religiously from that manual.

@chef1366:
I have spark plug and have good compression in all 4 chambers.

CYr,
IIRC stage 3 in a dynojet kit for an 1100E had both a 132 and a 138 for the main jet. With the stock exhaust you might try:

Stock pilots (45)
Needle with the clip in the third slot from the bottom
DJ132 for the main
Screws at 2.5 turns out.

Make sure your petcock/fuel tap is functioning properly. You also need to assure your float levels are set properly (22.4mm measured according to your manual or if you don't have a manual check BassClif's website for instructions on how to properly set them....very very very important). You also need to check your float valve needles. If they're scored with a ring around the tip they're trash and you need to order new ones from www.z1enterprises.com or the like.

We are of course assuming that the carbs have been disassembled and the Orings all replaced and the carbs cleaned. If you didn't replace the Orings, like the one on the fuel inlet seat, it's not sealing and your carbs won't hold back all that gas.

The DJ kits only come with one size of needles, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there.

@TheCafeKid :I have replaced everything but the stage 3 needle and the Jet. I purchased this kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/80-8...6066588QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

@BassCliff: I just wanted to state that you are the MAN.
I will check out the setting thank you.

So last night, i went to work again on my little gs1100. and i got to her. tightened all the boots, and started the bike. i managed to get it to ideal at 1.5k for the most part. The thing is during the time i was making my adjustments, my whole block was in smoke. also when i ideal i have white smoke from my right exhaust. i Figured the mixture must be off. i am at 2.5 turns right now. I am a little scared to adjust it by ear. Is that the only way?

White Smoke?
Does it smell like burning oil or gas?
Is there any oil on the spark plugs?
I'd like to see a pic of the plugs.

@CHEF1366: I will take a picture, when i will be there next time to show you.
I know about the oil on the plugs. the thing with that it burns off after some time.
it smell like gas. i think i have a mixture issue.

Hi,

I'm just trying to figure out why it's smoking so much. Have you tested your petcock? It could be dumping fuel back down the vacuum line.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Sorry Guys have not seen the bike for a week now.
i could not make it out to the garage. its has been really hard with work in NY.
So i am saving on the travel. kinda sucks.

Black smoke = running rich, sooty plugs.
White smoke = BURNING OIL, oily plugs.
Whatever fuelling issues you have with the pods and the stage 3 kit, you appear to be burning oil, and lots of it.

In the DJ stage 3 kit jasontheterminator bought, the needles were the wrong ones. I suggest you remove a (the) needle (s), measure the length and diameter and give dynojet a call and make sure you have the correct needles for your kit.
