GS1100 GK to G conversion?

I am proud owner of a GS1100GK that needs help. I'm digging for solutions and thought I might find someone here that's been there.

I think this thing was wrecked and the front faring may have been destroyed. In any event it's gone. Additional damage includes a huge dent in the tank and the right side case frame was bent. Both cases are gone.

Some PO hooked up an angle bar with a couple of truck stop lights for turn signals and mounted the headlight to the steel bar. You can imagine what an attractive sight it makes. He also used duct tape to mount the rear signals to the hard bag frames. Can anyone hear "Dualing Banjos" from Deliverance?

So, I've confirmed that the forks are bigger on the GK and spread wider apart. I have a triple T and dog ears from a straight G and thought about just swapping out the whole thing but I think that's going to mess me up down at the wheel.

Anybody have any suggestion?

I'm heading to the Motorcycle junk yard to see if I can come up with anything that might work. I just want to mount a headlight and signals some way that doesn't make it look like I got an engineering degree from Bubba's College of mekanical enjuneerin'.

The forks and triples from a G model will work just fine.

Grandpa, paging Grandpa!

He did the exact same thing when a deer took out the front end of his GK, and mounted up a Vetter fairing.

It's changed hands twice and is still going strong...

Had to replace the drive and driven gears once, and a starter clutch, but considering its got 137K on it and has never had the head off, id say thats pretty dang good :)

gixxer inverted, gixxer inverted, gixxer inverted!!! buuuwaaa ha ha!!!

For what it's worth: I didn't have forks and I thought the wheel would not the right width so I went another way. I found fork ears off of a Kawasaki 1300 that were big enough to fit over the forks. They came with a KZ headlight and I can mount them with standard Suzuki turn signals.

It's not stock Suzi, but it will work and look a heck of a lot better than Bubba's solution.

Larry,

Any further report?

Sounds like you have sucsesfully navigated the problem that folks will have when they think they can can take off a GK faring and put on G parts. That of the front forks of GK being different than G (not only larger diameter, but wider spacing).

I did not discover this on my own GK untill I got a replacment front fender from a G.
