    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

gs1100 runs poorly at higher rpm's

Hello all,
I am a newby here and have ,what i think , is a simple problem, but above my skill level.
I just became the proud owner of a 1980 gs1100 L ,it was basically a haul it off and its yours deal.
I have had to clean out the carbs to get it firing on all four and it will start easy , idles great , revs up great (while in neutral) . I can ride around the neighborhood just fine if i am under approx. 3000 rpm's but if i try to "get after" it ,it bogs down and cuts out like its out of gas?????
What should i look into next????
 
heres my response to having a similar situtation with my 81 gs450l earlier this summer....

1. Replaced intake boots-i purchased used boots....although I replaced the o-rings with new o-rings
2. Made sure I had good seal on airbox(very important)
3. trimmed my vacuum line so the ends weren't brittle
4. runs smooth now.
 
I would add to that check for float bowl levels being right on, petcock filter clean, gas cap vent not clogged. Sounds like fuel starvation.
 
You have the BS vacuum carbs, great carbs but they are very sensitive to air leaks on both the intake & air box side THEY must have the airbox installed to run properly
 
Since i am "diagnosing" it , i don't have the air box on it right now, is it that important to have it on there?
and also, i noticed that my vacuum line is really long,approx. 12", should i trim that down to a shorter length??
 
airbox is critical...can't diagnose anything without it on...it will suck too much air and starve itself out...plus you can't tell if anything else is leaking. Just make sure the vacuum line isn't old on the ends and brittle...
