Cutoff the peg mounts and will get new ones welded on tomorrow.

Thinking about doing the seat myself.

Gotta study up on how Corbins are made, all about memory foam and gel inserts.

Anyone done one themselves?
I doubt you're going to do justice to that machine with a home made seat. I had one done by Sergeants for the 1100 and am very satisfied with it. I basically cut the foam to the profile I wanted then specificed how I wanted it to look. They did a first class job.

I agree. I re-shaped my stock foam into what I wanted, too, then took it to a reputable upholsterer, discussed options (they're the pros) and came up with a design I liked. It's one of the most visually important features of any bike. A badly done seat just screams at you. I've had 5 seats done, and none has ever cost over $200. Worth every penny when it turns out just the way you want, and it comes with a satisfaction guarantee.

you can't selfish bump without posting pics! especially after all the progress we've seen in the thread. C'mon, I know you got something else done.

Before you go through the hassle of changing out the fork seals, slide the dust cover down, take a piece of 35mm photo negative, stick it where the seal meets the slider and work it around the seal surface up and down like a saw. You may just have a little dirt in there that needs to come out. I did this on my bike ('95 GSXR 1100 forks) and fixed a leak. Took all of about 5 minutes. Also, what did you have to do to get the header to fit?

Slot the holes in the header flange, weld on a few washers and cut up and slap on some 1-3/4 exhaust pipe(autozone)collars to snug them into the exhaust ports.

Wow, patrickmcp, this is looking incredible! I have been inspired by you, 80GS1000, YoshiJohnny, and others here and over at OSS to do something very similar to my '82. I have been studying all your builds and I must say you all have covered so much, I seem to have very little footwork left to do myself.

I have been gathering all my parts ahead of time, before I start and end up with something stalled in my shop for 6 months waiting. So far I have 05 GXSR 1000 forks (and the special ground top bearing, what a problem solver!) rear sets and both front and rear wheels from a 2006 GSXR 750, for the 5.5 rear especially, the complete rear suspension from a 2008 GSXR 1000 (actually ended up with two from a shipping mistake and was told to keep the extra!). I am going to put in a call this week to get the offset 520 front sprocket from Advanced Precision.

This leads me to the last part of my search, the rear sprocket. Everyone seems to have taken different approaches to the offset issue. I think I am going to try one more if no one has perfected the recipe. I propose to use the cush drive and spacers from the 750 wheel and determine the offset needed. Then machine up a male and female die set that registers off the bore of the sprocket to coin in the offset in my 100 ton press. Depending on how much I need to go it will only alter the pitch diameter a few thousandths. Starting with a stock 530 sprocket I could the face it off in the lathe to narrow it to 520 specs (width is the only difference, correct?). Once I made the tool I could use it over and over again, and the process would take minutes.

My question is does anyone have a simpler approach, a supplier that can make offset rear sprockets as well (inexpensive)? Rather than wait until I am at that point in my build, I am hoping you remember how much your original set up was off so I can see if this is feasible, and if it is I could offer it to others once it proves out.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Cheers, Erick

How about some close ups of what you did to the pipe? Better yet, how about removing & taking good pics for us?!! LOL!! Thanks, Ray.

As long as you get new swingarm bushings made identical to the 2005 version but with the GS's axle diameter and the flange about 1mm thick you're cool. I did have to shave the frames pivots a hair, but where talking about using an abrasive gasket wheel not a grinder. No issues with centering. The swingarm is longer than stock. Same travel as the old one. Using the 2005 GSXR 1000 linkage and shock. We'll see how that goes if anything I'll try the busa shock or upgrade the spring. No real issues, everything running smoothly so far. 80GS1000's posting helped alot. I credit him for my madness.

Wow that actually sounds pretty easy :rolleyes:. Maybe I'll do that next :o.

Yea I know still gotta do the cross brace :lol:.

Sorry , I'm just ctaching up with your thread. :)

Painting ala spray can is impossible to get right on a frame with soo many tubes, something always catches overspray. /QUOTE]

Yea it is a nightmare, but the Por-15 hardnose paint and then the clear coat goes along way to making it very nice. So along with longevity, Powder Coating gets around the overspray issue.

BTW, anybody out there thinking about using a Bandit 1200 header, mine hits oil pan before letting the exhaust flanges seat up fully. Not enough distance between the flanges and the collector.

I picked it up in the winter off fleabay for nothing and I heard they fit.
I got it to replace my rusty dented Vance & Hines.
If I cant get the Bandit header to fit then I may chop them up to make a nice flat 4-2-1 out of them.

Has anyone out there successfully used a Bandit 1200 header on an 1100 or 1150 before?
I think maybe the 1110 has a different deeper oil pan than the 1000.

I'll check tonight again for clearance.

I think the Bandit 1200 motor is identical in height to the 1127 GSXR slingshot motor. I have fit a 2nd gen 4:2:1 as well as 1st gen 1052 motor pipe onto my GS1100ED. The 2nd gen had a bunch of room. (see my siggy). I have see lots of pics of SS headers on GS's that are likely GSXR and they hand very low. I think you most likely got a 600 not a 1200 header.

Headers = late 80's Yamaha FZR 1000
Muffler = Supertrapp Universal 10"

Hey that is not fair; how did ya get a FZR to fit???? :p This project is obviously too easy for you.:rolleyes:

Nice work Sorry for all the late posts I have been concentraing on my own and just took the time to look. :o

OK I'm officially impressed. Nice, very nice, well thought out and I like the headlight. What type is it? Looks like a Harley V Rod

Dunno, the tail is a la spray can and I still have to play around with the number of Supertrapp discs to get it to run right.

Mechanical stuff is out of the way, so I guess its cosmetics next.

Think I'm gonna patch up the side panels and put them on.

Harley V rod headlight.

I have LED end bar front turn signals, they aren't bright enough during the day, gotto get some like the ones in the back.
