So I started taking my carbs apart tonight. I labeled them, separated them, and took off the first float bowl. I took out the pilot and main jets. The main jet was 160!? I knew it was running rich when the plugs were wet but I didn't expect to find jets this large in there. Could they be non-mikuni and not be as large as I think?
Where is a good place to get replacement jets and rebuild kits? I put on a V&H street megaphone so I am thinking 122.5 mains and 47.5 pilots. I have the stock airbox.

With a stock airbox, more like 45s or even 42.5s on the pilots. Mixture screws 1.5-2.0 turns out to start & needle on 3rd or 4th clip from the top. Also, the STOCK main is a 122 so I would start at 130 or 135 on the mains. These are STARTING points to tune FROM! Ray.

hmm, the directions from V&H say to bump the main jet up to 122.5 and the pilot to 47.5, I am fairly certain that the stock jetting is 115 main and 45 pilot.

Ray, are you sure about that main? According to the numbers posted on the carb specs thread sticky the 1100E main is 112.5; I just ordered a set that size about an hour ago. If I am wrong I will try to change it. I am taking mine back to stock exhaust and airbox from pods.

hmm if that thread is correc than the stock jet for my bike is 110 and 45. I still think I am going to order the 122.5....wonder why there was a 160 in there though?

Sorry guys, the 122s are for 1150s. I get mixed up sometimes if I don't go look at the book before I spout off. Ray.

Not that this has anything to do with the temperature of spit in Wichita, but the OEM mains on a set of GS850G or GS1100G carbs are 115.

You'd think the mighty 1100E would have bigger main jets than the shafties, but who knows...?

According to the Suzuki Factory Service Manual, jetting for the GS1100E changed over the years. From the manual (and supplements):

1980: 107.5 main, 45 pilot
1981: same as 1980
1982: 110 main, 45 pilot
1983: 112.5 main, 45 pilot

Oh sure, open up a book and end the debate with actual information, Mr. Smarty McSmart-Pants... :D

Well, it was either that, or prop up a bike with it:

So just to ask again....where should I order rebuild kits and jets from. I contacted georgefix for the rebuild kits to see if he could substitute the jets I need into the kits, haven't gotten a definitive answer from him yet though.

I'm still shocked the PO put 160's in the bike tho. Ridiculous!

Fortunately or unfortunately, I already ordered rebuild kits from Georgefix. I am hoping he will be able to provide me with jets as well. The only o-rings I will need will be the ones that go in the tubes between the carbs. A few of them fell apart.

Which jets do I need, large round or small round?

So far I've got 3 of the carbs completely disassembled and cleaned/soaked them. I am keeping the forth together until I get the rebuild kits for a visual reference. I also ordered stainless hardware for all the bolts on the carbs. The screws in there were buggered up real bad by PO's and were quite rusty. Surprisingly I was able to use skills from previous GS carb encounters to keep from stripping any heads, not bad when there are 48 old phillips heads.

are you using the stock air box or pods ? pod air filters use much larger main jets. even with pods my 81 and 82 gs1100s [ new] ran fine with pods and racing pipes with the stock pilot jets. i think the mains were 140 but that was 25 years ago:eek:

I am using the stock airbox with the stock filter. V&H recommends 122.5 mains. I ordered 47.5 pilot jets. If I don't like em I can put back in the stock ones.

I have pods, in my 850g and in the near future, I intend to go to the stock air filter. My main is 115. the air jet says 190 (maybe 1.90???) the Pilot I can not identify. When I do change it to stock, I know I have to change the air one. Do I have to change the pilot as well??
