I had the carbs off the GS today and cleaned them up nicely. I reinstalled them without the airbox chamber behind it. I like this and I like the accessibility to the battery etc. What would be the down side of installing a set of individual filter elements? Would this require rejetting for a smooth running bike? I like the convenience and I definitely like the looks of individual filters but is it worth it?

Something like that is what I had in mind. Just looking for some opinions.

Thanks guys!

It would require a DynoJet kit to get it to run CORRECTLY. Frankly, having dealt with this issue myself, if i HAD an airbox for my 1100ES, it would be on it.

If you really WANT to go with pods (the performance gain is minimal, maybe 3-5HP tops, you'll not notice it much.) and you get yourself a Dynojet Kit, I'd gladly trade you straight up my KN pod filters for your airbox ;):D LMAO

Haha, thanks for the insight. I mean, I just hated struggling with these dry rotted old boots on the air box just to possibly have to do it again if my carb clean didn't fix my problem. I'll stick with the box for now, I just didn't know if these carried the same tuning issues as true velocity stacks.

Anyone else got a word on this?

Order new boots. 12 bucks or so each. Will make things MUCH MUCH easier!

I'll probably go ahead and do that then! :D

Thanks a lot for the tip, hopefully this bike will be moving under its own power by the end of the week!

broken record here,
on GS CV carbs you either have to run the factory air box or install a ST.3 jet kit..period.
air filters or stacks...no box=ST.3 jet kit.
note*
you can spend days shimming and jetting your CV's just to have a POS set of carbs that will not transition properly.
i just eat up some more of franks bandwith covering something that ive posted so much im sure ive p*ssed off many....woooohoooooo:twistedevil:

josh,
have you ever ridin your bike with a stock airbox?
Nope, but ive ridden OTHER 1100E's with a stock box. Better midrange punch, not the same top end rush, yeah, i noticed it didnt seem QUITE as powerfull, but it was also a BONE STOCK set up. I figure a stage one with a box and a pipe will still be pretty damn fun. Dont forget, im not out running these jokers in the red light derby. Im out to get in and out of the corners pronto, so that 3 extra top end HP really doesnt mean chit to me, if the bike will pull out of the apex just as fast.

When I was running pods on my 700, it was awfully sensitive to high side winds, particularly if it was raining.

I never did get them dialed in 100% to my satisfaction, even with a DJ Stage III kit installed. I was running a V&H 4into1 canister at the time. After three years, I said to heck with it and put it back to stock configuration with a DJ Stage I kit and K&N OEM style filter.

I don't miss the slightly lower top end much, but love the quicker warm up time and improved transition/midrange punch.
