    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1100ez Rear Set Bracket

I've had a few folks ask me for details on how I mounted ZX12r rear sets to my 82 GS 1100. I took some close ups of the shifter side tonight. I'll have to do the brake side later in the week.

Heres the brake side.

Here's shifter side with everything installed. The only thing added to the linkage was the threaded adjuster below the shifter I cut that down from a left over FZ1 piece I had from another project. Don't mind the water spots.

Zx12R rear set removed exposing bracket and three cap head mounting bolts. Note bracket rest on collar for original shifter pivot also to help cary load . Also note red tinge in two holes where rear set mounts. Those are steel heli-coil threads to help carry load.

Top view shows why bar had to be added to back side. Mounting locations on bike are at diferent depths from front face. See next post

Back side of bracket showing bar that was added to level mounting surfaces and allow mounting bolts to be counter sunk on front surface. If mounting bolts not counter sunk then rear set would not be flush. Also note that there is a misplaced 4th hole in the bar. It doesn't show from front so we just left it.

Just wanted to post this shot to show the quality of the weld. My friends do nice work. Its a crime its not visible when mounted.

I thought about this for months and months and this was the final solution. I'm sure there are simpler ways to go about this but I'm happy with this set up. I'll post the brake side later in the week. This is like "Lost" you gotta wait for the next episode. sorry.

Answer: The right friends; I hooked my buddy up with his wife and they are still madly in love so over the last 2.5 years he has been helping me with all the machine work. Lets hope the marriage continues to work.

Sorry, this guy has a great job and absolutely no need to do stuff on the side. You should see his 34 pick up truck hot rod with corvette engine and suspension. Master craftsman. It probably took him about four hours to do each bracket. It took me months to get the design right.

Answer: Sorry, I don't have plans. What I did was to take a piece of 1/2" thk clear lexan and mocked up the front plate. Lexan is easy to cut with a jig saw and drill with home tools. Being clear its also easy to see through it to pick up the mounting locations from the frame. Once I was happy with the design I handed it off to my friend for the machining.

There is so much variance between GS models that this would only help you if you were using ZX12R rear sets on a 82 GS1100ez. Every other GS model has the mounting holes in either slightly or drastically different locations. Hope the photos help to get you started.

Wish I could tell everyone there was a company producing these components but its not the case. I can probably hook you up though if your looking to get married. I'm currently batting 100% on the match making.

I am the only one here!! hehe. Ain't skeered of marriage! :-D Thanks for those pics. I am going to find a set of rear sets from something late model and go with the lexan mock up. It is working well for my gauge bracket mods, so I'll do it for the rearsets too. Thanks for those pics, and compliments to your buddy's welding prowess!
 
Here's brake side with rear set attached, note that return springs for pedal and for activating brake light switch runs on back side of bracket and behind the upper rear mounting bolt.

Here bracket with rear set removed. This bracket is same thickness front and back. My buddy applyed a brushed look to the surface so I wouln't have to keep polishing it but I'll probably sand it smoothand polish it in the winter. Finding a source for those coarse thread metric allen head cap bolts was a b%*ch.

Where did you find those coarse thread metric allen head cap bolts? I made some similar mounting plates to put GSXR 1000 rearsets on the GS1000, but couldn't find any allen head cap bolts to suit. They look great, much better than standard hex head bolts.

I found those bolts at the site below. Prices shown are for packs of 10. I used the 10mmX30mmX1.25 fine thread. I said coarse thread above but thats wrong. These are the bolts that fit back where the original Suzuki bolts mounted the stock rear sets on the 82 GS1100e. These are the ones you see mounting my rear set brackets. Your lucky I found my records cause I couldn't remember where I had gotten them. They are chromed.
