GS1100G, fairing project

That connector melted because of the stator wiring up to the headlamp switch. A very common problem that's listed in the Newbie Mistakes thread of items that should be fixed.
W/G from the stator to the connector > does a loop back into the connector > becomes W/R and goes on to the R/R?

W/G from the stator to the connector > does a loop back into the connector > becomes W/R and goes on to the R/R?

Yes, correct. Needless high current wire path, though connectors that develop resistance = melted harness.

Got all the struts finished

Got all the struts finished

You have to design and build your own struts for these fairings.
My design came out really solid, feels good.
Next-headlight mount and windshield install.

Installed, not yet painted

Installed, not yet painted

Ok, got all the mechanical work done and did a test ride, up to 85mph.
Works great!
Has to be painted to match the bike, no adjustments to mention.

Thanks, for the signal lights it was an easy bracket to make, just a bent flat steel bar under the existing horn mounting bolts.
Did not have to buy new signal lights.
The wiring harness was long enough to stuff back into the headlight housing, I like that.

Looks really nice Bill. Are you going to have any pin stripping done to it?

Damn, that looks good. You have enough room for your hands at full steering lock?

I love it! I like the low mounted turn signals - they don't clutter up the look of the fairing.

+1, they suit it very well.

Looks great! For years I have been fitting a cut down 1150 fairing on my 821100e and you provided some ideas how to fab the bracket. Thanks.

Right thanks good question. I'm going to cut out more room for my knuckles. That was an issue I tried to fix using many different angles and heights, but decided I'd just have to do some cutting after all. Will do a few more test rides to find any more issues for adjustment.

Thanks! Wish I could find an exact match to what's there; 1/8-1/16-1/8.
This bike is overdue for touch up and new clear coat, so I'm gonna add a wide racing stripe up the middle on the tailpiece, tank and fender, plus the fairing, in red or burgundy.
Might add some similar pinstripes on the fairing.
Somewhat inspired by the 83-84 Kawasaki GPz1100-750

Looks good Bill, I'll have to remember this thread whenever I get to my one piece full fairing. Are you going to weld all the ends or leave it with the screws holding them together?

Never mind, I looked back and saw that it's made of aluminum and steel.

I was gonna epoxy the aluminum struts into the steel feet after I was sure I had the right lengths, but it's nice to be able to take it apart easy. Maybe I'll just silicone glue them, to absorb movement/vibration.

Ok, I like it. Finally got rid of it's frumpy olde 80s cruiser look, while keeping the original black with pinstipes.

Nice! It blends right in. If it wasn't for the red and the windscreen, you could hardly tell a fairing was on it. Have you had it up to speed yet? If so, how's it handle?
