A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Just picked up a couple of 85 GS1150E's, trying to figure out the battery I need, they are not in my garage yet, so I can't check. I've looked on the web and have come up with about 4 sets of numbers, which one do I need?

GTX14AH-BS
CBTX12
S14L-B2
XT14L-B2

???????????????????????????????????

Hi Mr. 83GS1100E_Tornado,

Or you could use the Yuasa YB14L-B2. I would suggest an equivalent AGM maintenance-free battery like Mr. rapidray uses.

The numbers will vary a little according to the manufacturer, amperage, style, etc. GTX14AH-BS is PowerMax, S14L-B2 is Superior, etc.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Doesn't this model bike have some sort of battery level sensor in it? I just called a local shop and they didn't have one in stock, I guess I could always run without it. If I remember correctly, my 83 GS1100E had the same sensor in it, I just connected the wire lead to a positive source, and it made the light go out!!!!

Hi Mr. GS1100E_Tornado,

The information below is from Yuasa's webpage. Apparently the "S" means "sensor" but the replacement battery has none. Hense the "Sensor must be disabled" disclaimer.

Suzuki - GS1150E, S 1983-1986 1150cc

Battery Family: YuMicron
Battery Type:
SYB14L-B2 (disc. use YB14L-B2)

Discontinued when stock is depleted, use YB14L-B2. Sensor must be disabled

This battery includes a sensor.
Voltage: 12
Capacity: 14
Dimensions:
5.3125" x 3.5" x 6.5625"
Weight:
7.6 lbs.
Metric Dimensions:
134mm x 89mm x 166mm
Metric Weight: 3.4 kg
Acid Volume: 30.4
Amps: 1.4

I think I'd rather keep the sensor circuit if I could. I'm sure there are other manufacturers with a direct compatible replacement. I'll shut up now. 8-[

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

That's exactly how mine was wired when I bought it and I inquired about it a week, or so, back on the forum!!! I couldn't figure out why it had been wired that way and then it suddenly came to me between beers....

The battery on the bike was not maintenance free but I'm guessing that the previous one was. Soooooo, I changed the wiring around and plugged in the sensor and it works perfectly.\\:D/

Sorry, looks like I put the "S" on the wrong end of the #. But the good news is JC Whitney still shows the SYB14L-B2 for appx. $46
