    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1150ES Dies When Throttle Opened

Rebuilt carbs (ultrasonic, new O ring, the lot) get the bike going but it dies as soon as the throttle is opened.

Someone has had this problem before.

Tickover is strong. I haven't synced carbs yet. All cylinders are hot.

I did have to make quite a bit of adjustment to the float heights when I rebuilt the carbs. Which I thought was quite strange. Those little metal tab surely can't bend out of position on their own?

If float bowls were not filling sufficiently, would it cause these symptoms? Perhaps only the choke circuit and idle jets are collecting enough gas?

Link shows a photo of a throttle shaft seal.

You got the airbox installed? If so, is the filter installed inside? Or does the bike use pods, in which case I don't have a clue?

Regarding the float height, are the float needle springs weak, compressing under the weight of the float itself?

Bad link to vid. Shows only a shaft seal on pliers.

Double check float height. Make sure your measuring from the correct point to point with no float bowl gasket installed. As stated above, make sure you're not compressing the pin on the float valve needle. Low float level will give you problems.
 
Nessism - Yes airbox is installed. Air filter is installed too.

Not sure about float springs. When I measure the float height I rest the float tab on the pin of the needle. I think the weight of the float was compressing the needle slightly if it was not held.

JTGS850GL - yes thanks for that. I have done several banks of these carbs. But never really had to bend the float tabs any significant amount. I did bend these quite a bit to get the correct reading which I think is 21.4 mm + - 1 mm. Which did surprise me.

Measurements were done without the gasket.

I think I'll have to do some "on the bike" measurements from the float bowl drains.

No clue on the problem but I do enjoy your photos and videos. Trusting that your carb cleaning was thorough, maybe something dodgy going on with the ignitor? Just for kicks you might want to see if the same thing happens with the choke pulled out.
 
Nessisim - with the choke pulled out cold it revs up to 1.5K. When it is warm it revs up to 4K.

I drilled a floatbowl drain screw and glued in a piece of tubing.

Doubt float height is the problem.

Is the jetting stock? Since the airbox is installed the stock pilot jet should be correct, and the pilot screws should be in the 2.5 turns open range.

Is that the pilot screw at the bottom of you photo? If so the tip is all smashed flat and not usable.

If your slides are stuck or you have a broken diaphragm it will do this.
 
Maddevill - slides stuck? Never thought of that. Can't remember checking them though. All diaphragms were good. I'll take the top off one of the carbs and see if it moves.
