    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS300 Carbs

I'm putting together a GS300L for my daughter's first bike and need a bit of information on the carbs, so I hope you folks won't mind a few questions.

First, what the heck are these carbs? They're Mikuni's with no visible model number, have a round slide, oval venturi, and use a pull-knob on the side of the carbs to actuate the enricher, and that's about all that seems distinctive.

I've already done a search here and found some excellent info on the GS300 -- Thanks Folks!!! -- but didn't see a mention of which model carb this bike uses.

There seems to be a wierd fuel supply problem going on. I've checked the fuel tap and run the bike on prime but it's as though the fuel bowls aren't venting properly -- or something. The bike will start and run OK for a while and then the idle rises and the bike stalls out. It feels like the fuel level in the float bowls is changing and leaning out.

I've also put on a clear fuel line and filter to monitor the situation and when it stalls there's fuel in the filter and line. After sitting for a few minutes the fuel drains into the carbs and the bike will start and run again. That's with either the gas tank installed or a vented auxiliary fuel tank, so it's not a fuel tap or supply problem from the tank.

Anybody got an idea on this? Perhaps a blocked bowl vent somebody could steer me to?

Also... What's the float setting for these carbs? The previous owner was not a great mechanic and I'm afraid he might have screwed it up. The needle valves look good, though.

I can't find a mixture screw on the carbs but I did find caps on the carbs that look like they might be EPA covers over the mixture screws. They're physically located on the top side of the carbs next to the enricher control shaft on the outlet side of the carbs.

Can anyone verify that the mixture screws are there before I start drilling?

I have recenly aquired a 1985 GS300L for a bike to learn on for I am new to them. I hope you have not started to drill yet because I don't believe what you are looking for is there. Check out the web sight below for a exploded veiw of the carb or any other part. I have a owners manual which states the carburetor is a MIKUNI BS330SS, twin (which I can not find anything on through the internet other than MIKUNI BS) I tore into mine and cleaned it up and found it was pretty dirty. I plan on rebuilding it, but am unable to find a kit for it. Temeculamotorsports.com has been a useful web site for individual parts using parts fiche.
 
ballbusterdust, the mixture screws on my Mikuni BS's are where you describe on my 450L. As I've very recently learned, :oops: , some have them on the outside side. See recent post regarding another 450's carb issues for pics.
 
ccratin, I may have missunderstood which caps jimmyj900 was refering to. I thought he was talking about the caps over the throttle butterfly shaft. Thank you for straightening that out, and the information on the 450 carb post is also quite useful which answers the question in need.
 
Well, not doing too well on this topic apperantly. Just got my Suzuki factory service manual in which states the carb is a MIKUNI BS30SS, bore size 30. Not mikuni bs330ss like the recently burnt owners manual I got with the bike states.
