Do they have a drill bit in the DJ kit for the vacuum holes in the slides? If so, any idea what diameter? I'm still thinking of enlarging mine but I can't find what size drill to use except for one of the Kat guys saying 3.5mm...

5/32 or 3.96mm. Although I would measure yours an only go a small size up at a time. The dj kit for the 500 has you drill and tap for the inserts they give you.

I have a complete DJ kit for the GS500.It has stage 1 and 3.I don't know what size the bit is.Never opened it.

Interesting... a lot bigger than what I've been informed about for mine.

I'll have to rip the slides out again and measure the size as is and try to work it out from there...

Now to resume normal thread activities :)

LoL. The end result with the dj kit is a smaller hole than stock. They have you install an incert that makes the hole less than 1/8.

Besides that I met with Dary (fjbj40) and we got some of the paiting started. I also found some holes in the tank that has to be fixed before I can continue. Ive been talking to adidasguy on the gstwins forum about getting the rest of the parts I need.

Thanks for the reminder.I need to contact him also.He is a good source for parts.Even with all the stuff I have,he's my go to guy.

Yeah I know, he's the 500 horder :P I gave him a pretty big list of stuff and haven't herd from him in 2 days now. He's got just about everything I would need to finish the project.

I've heard Addy is *the* guy to go to... even the folk in Aus go to him!

Interesting on the vacuum hole... smaller than stock! That's a little odd...

Yep,everyone seems to go to Adidasguy.

If I understand it properly. The smaller hole causes the slide rise faster due to more vacuum acting to pull up on the slide while also limiting bleed air through the hole as air is ingested by the engine vacuum, thus helping to push the slide up faster. This is my understanding and could be completely wrong.

Yeah that's what I would've thought too... although interestingly enough there was some debate I found via Google search that indicated the larger hole was to increase the lift hence why people drilled them out...

This is one reason I haven't actually bitten the bullet and drilled mine yet...

I'm going to be looking into that soon Pete. Definitely going to try the shortened springs.

Good news

I have some parts heading this way from Adidasguy

Rotor
Coils, plugs
speedo
tach
chain guard (custom made by him)
rear plastic covers
Foot pegs
rear reflectors
shims
grommets.

Good old Adidas...... I've gotten my share of parts from him as well.

Sorry for the mini jack Stephen. But Pete - I have some GS450 carbs laying around if you want them. Or even just the slides if you want to experiment with them. Just cover shipping.

Stephen... I'm now running 150 mains and so far so good, should be getting a nice ride in tomorrow to confirm though.

Rich, that may come in handy actually, although I have an offer here of some slides pending determining if they're the same as mine though.

I've still yet to pull the slides again and measure the vacuum hole...

You made me go look :P
2.90mm or 0.115"

Hahaha... I will have to go measure mine this week... and after today's awesome riding with the 150 mains I reckon I should do the drilling too...

Any difference with top end pull with the 150's?

Mate it's awesome... last time I was out on some good roads, I hit a certain speed and that was that... no amount of crouching behind the fly screen would improve it.

On Saturday, no crouching and accelerating in 5th gear, I easily passed that speed and felt she had a reasonable amount more to go.

I'm confident I can hit the ton if I so desire now :)

Of course I would only do that on a private road in controlled circumstances right? ;)

Maybe step it up another notch to see if there is any more. How do the plugs look on a wot plug chop ?

I haven't done plug chops yet as the situation wasn't suitable on Saturday, but I did some tests by holding it at WOT and then letting the throttle close a little to see if she would pick up a little or not, and while it didn't seem to do so, it felt like it wanted to, so given that I don't want to get any bigger on the mains.

It's still doing some popping on decel as well so I think I need to richen the mixture screws another quarter turn.

I should be doing a dyno run with the Kat guys on May 18 which will show me how good/bad it really is...
