This is kind of weird. I just finished a carb job on my 83 550L (two barrel Mikuni's). When I went to start it up, I choked it and it wouldn't fire at all. So I thought, maybe the carbs didn't get filled up. So I checked the bowls and had gas out the drain screws. Hm. Cranked it again and still no fire. Pulled plugs and checked for spark. Good spark but the plugs are dry. Hm.
So I got the starter fluid, shot a spray in box and presto! Fired right up! It started to idle REALLY high (4K) so I went for the choke lever to back it down and noticed that the choke was completely off! 8O So I started to choke it and the rpm's dropped. Was able to adjust the choke about half way and get a nice warmup rpm at 2K. Opened the throttle a couple times and it's sounding good.
SO HERE'S THE WEIRD PART. After about a 5 minute warm up, I go to turn off the choke and the rpm's jump right back up to the 4K range! And THEN, when I would turn my handle bars, the rpm's would jump up again! WTF? How the hell could I screw this up?
When I get home, I'm going to check the throttle cable and choke cables (one cable y's to two carbs) and see if I didn't miss something somewhere?
Any suggestions?
