A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey guys, been hovering here for a while, just recently signed up, I have a 1979 gs550 a previous owner has heavily customised, including wide glide yokes and 1980 wheels and brakes. currently trying to find out if I should have dust seals over the wheel bearings as I can find no information online, exploded view of parts only show a spacer with a pressed steel plate, however this doesn't adequately cover the bearings, local supplier seem none the wiser either. Thanks

The OEM wheel bearings typically have a seal on the outside and nothing inside. You can install fully sealed aftermarket bearings though.

I believe that on my GS1100 and 1150 rims the replacement (aftermarket) bearings were all completely sealed, but the ones I removed out were sealed too (so no extra seals).

Thanks for the replies guys, this is why im a little confused, the bearings I have removed are all sealed units which iv stripped, cleaned and reasembled, I was under the impression there should be a further ruber seal either side to seal against the ID of the wheel and the OD of the spacer bushings, does anyone have a picture of a loose wheel they can share?

Look at the parts fishe if you want a parts diagram

Cheers dude, helped alot, iv looked at partsfish and it seems there is a dust cover on the right side of the front wheel but I dont require one as the wide glide spacer kit that came fitted to the bike when I bought it replaces it.... il hopefully post some pics of my progress and a build thread once im more acquainted with the forum :-)
