A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello guys,
Does anyone knows the resistance of the sparkplug cap of GS550 '81 ?
NGK has 3 different value 1K,5K and 10K and i would like to
know if i can replace the original sparkplug cap with XD05F & VD05F which has 5K internal resistor.
i would appreciate if anyone measure the value of the spark plug cap .:)

I think that's what he's asking for.

I would guess 5K, but that's just a guess, haven't bought any for a while.

CAll Z-1 they have the right ones.

No, just call Z-1, they know that they are doing, and shipping is always super quick.

Ask for Jeff if you want, he's a member of this forum, but the other guys there know what they are doing too.

i don't know what you meant when you said "just call Z-1"
what is the Z-1 ?

does anyone knows, if there is a way to test an ignition coil ?

.

yes , i already read this document
I am looking something that simulate the "real life".

.

According to the GS1000 Manual :>)
Ignition coil resistance Primary should be 4 OHM
Ignition coil resistance Secondary is 4K
1K=1000 so that 4000 ohms

Farther into the manual the chart on page 11-2
Shows primary as 2-6 ohms
And secondary as 11-17K

With the coil disconnected from the bike
Measure from the two leads =X
Measure from each lead to the plug wire each =X and =X
Unless you have a HV Meter you can?t check the output it someplace between 4000-10000 Volts

Word of advice they either work or don?t
Easiest way is use a jumper cable and ground the spark plug where you can see it and watch the spark to see if it fires

With the gas off please and other spark plug wires removed
also dyna ignitions have different values from the suzuki stock coils
Safety 1st :>)
hope this helps

You want "real life"?

Hold on to the wire, crank the engine. If you get the snot shocked out of you, the coil is working.

.

I have a better idea Steve !
