Hey folks, I need new stainless steel guide pads for the caliper/brake pads on my 1980 550E. It doesn't show them separate on the parts fiche of that year, but they are available for the '83 GSX750ESD, and probably others.

Anybody know if any of the later year or model bikes will fit on mine?

Cheers in advance.

Having had another look at the '82 GS550, part number 59316-49001 is available and the calipers look similar. Might give those a try.

I have an '82 with those pad guides, and also have my brakes apart currently so let me know if you want measurements.

Thanks LightsOut, I've ordered them anyway so will let you know if it's a direct replacement. :cool:

I don't know why the fiche for the '80 model doesn't show the guide pads, but it doesn't. I'm pretty sure they were fitted as original. I replaced my old ones with the same part that you have ordered.

Yeah they were fine, they don't completely cover the alloy of the bracket one side (either the top or bottom), but will work perfectly. The righthand side on this particular bike has been missing them for ages, and the pads have really put indents into the bracket. Quick file to smooth the worst off and happy days. Just need to try and get some braking effort now.

Thanks for the answers guys. :eagerness:

Hi All;

I am rebuilding 1982 GS750E front calipers and found while putting them back together that only one had a pad guide (Part # 59316-45201) . I can order another but cannot recall how they fit into the caliper. The exploded drawing for the caliper is useless, it just shows this part floating in mid-air with no reference lines as to where it goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Dave
