I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have four glass tube style fuse, with no cover, and definitely no idea what each fuse is for. however they keep breaking, and i dont know the corrects amps for either 4.

the fsm sounds like there is one 15amp fuse.. someone help

so no one one here can tell me what the 4 fuses are for? stop refering me to a 1000 page fsm, i couldnt find it, my guess is no one on here knows their bike.

Hello:

I think you would get more help if you provide the year of the bike.

so no one one here can tell me what the 4 fuses are for?

They will and can if they know what year model your bike is and your request is more friendly.;)

stop refering me to a 1000 page fsm, i couldnt find it,

Ok I did not see anyone referring you to a 1000 p
age manual, so I am not going to tell you that its definitely in the manual which is downloadable at BikeCliff's website http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

my guess is no one on here knows their bike.

Maybe you should browse the site a bit and then rethink what you said. Comments like these are not going to have people falling over their feet to help you!:-$

Do you have a voltmeter or a test light?
Either one will be necessary to help you figure out your own fuse box.

1. Pull ALL the fuses from their holders.
2. Touch the terminals at both ends of the fuses, you will find ONE terminal that is live with the ignition key OFF.
That is the battery side of your MAIN fuse. Your MAIN fuse should be a 15 amp fuse.
3. Moving away from the MAIN fuse, you will find:
IGNITION
SIGNALS
LIGHTS

Each of these should be 10 amp fuses.

The IGNITION fuse powers the points or ignitor (depending on the year of your bike), the coils and provides power to the starter button.

The SIGNALS fuse provides power to the turn signals, brake lights, horn and warning lights, like oil pressure.

The LIGHTS fuse provides power to the headlight, tail light and instrument lights.

As the others have mentioned, nobody here knows their bikes. That's why we have to answer questions about everybody else's. (Note in my profile that I don't have any 550s listed.)

As usual, we do refer you to service manuals, but none of them are 1000 pages.
Even then, wiring diagrams are usually in the last few pages, so you don't have to waste much time looking.
A search on the forum would have worked, too, as this topic comes up every month or so. :o

If you look on the end caps of each of your fuses you'll find the amperage for each. I would advise that you use a magnifying glass as they are kinda small.

Also, have you downloaded the wiring diagram for your bike yet? If so, look at each of the wires coming out of the fuse block and then compare that with the wiring diagram.

Of course, Steve already gave you the answers you were looking for but I think it would have been a lot better to have not had the attitude first. Sometimes people won't always see a thread right away when there are alot of new ones posted. With that in mind, it might be a good idea to listen to what the others suggested about putting in the bike info in your signature.

FSM, LOL, IDK, FWIW, RTFM, BRB, ..., ...

Yep, goes along with all the "texting" shortcuts that the newbies insist on trying out here, but this one, I happen to know. :dancing:

Field Service Manual. :p

1980,.....

On pg. 393 of the 717 pg. The wiring diagram indicates that the fuses are, top to bottom.

Are they all blowing or are the breaking from insertion or removal?
A blown fuse can mean a short circuit or voltage spike.

Thes machines are notorius for electrical charging issues so if all the fuses are blowing then a cleaning of all electrical connection is in order after first inspecting for short circuits.

There are other here with deeper knowledge. I just found these few tidbits out by roving about ont he site and using the search function.

Did you get the Basccliff welcome? He has a large meandering treasure trove of information. Do not be upset electrics are the bane of human existence. You will get this sorted soon enough.

i put an hid system on it, that pulls 35watts from the headlight lowbeam, then the fuses started going, but driving at night was golden, so i changed it back, but they still keep going, seems like when i ride the freeway it blows a fuse

Which fuse is blowing - just the headlight fuse-? As others have stated, old wiring and connections are always suspect. On freeway, your RPM's are typically higher which means your alternator has increased output- have you checked your voltage output to make sure your R/R is working correctly?

Is the HID in place of, or in addition to, the low-beam headlight?

If it replaced the stock light, you have problems somewhere, because it's drawing LESS than the stock light.

If it is in additioin to the stock light, you are simply drawing more than the circuit is designed to handle.
