GS550L wiring for upgrade SH775.

Hey folks I have read through so many wiring threads but cannot find something that can help my issue yet. Putting my 1980 GS550L back in he road after a few years in the back of the shed as my son wants to ride and learn about fixing the old girl up. And figured while going through everything I would upgrade the R/R while I have it apart.

BUT... Wiring has me stumped.

Current r/r has 5 wires (red,red/white,yellow,white/blue/black)

The stator has the 3 yellow wires but 2 are going to the r/r and one is going into green/white wire that goes to the points(into right side of engine).

Do I just cut the green and white off and leave it, to run all three yellows to r/r?
Combine red and red/white?
Black ground directly to battery negative?

Follow the green/white wire it should lead to the left hand handlebar switch. if memory serves me correct they routed 1 phase from the generator

for headlight, so 3 yellow wires are your 3 phases from generator, red is your positive and black is your negative, now if your headlight doesn't work after this the green/white wire is to be joined red/white wire...

The search feature is your friend! If you are using anything other than a SH775 R/R you are asking for trouble! IMHO.

Ok, this makes more sense now there are 2 sets of green and white wires. One goes with thie r/r and the other is ignitor to signal generator. That is where I was getting messed up. They are in the same harness and I followed the wrong one out of the harness.
