    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for this site and all your inputs. After 2 months of trouble shooting and all the mistakes. Thhe bike cranked up yesterday and ran pretty good, after 2 decades of sitting.

Thank you so much for the carb rebuilding section, that was very helpful step-by-step instructions.

I am thinking about using the air-filter pods instead of the original air-filter box. What is your advice about using the pods, and what is the maintenance for the pods. Most likely I will order from Z1 Enterprises.
 
You'lll need to rejet. You'll also go through the carb removal and installation process again (probably several times).

If you don't already have an aftermarket header installed you likely won't gain much hp either.

I am not looking for more horsepower by installing the pods. I just want it to be the least maintenance as possible. The original airbox is very painful to take in and out. anyways, I have priced for OEM airfilter, it is like 30 dollars. Any suggestion ?

Once you get the carbs installed with the stock airbox you shouldn't have to take them off for a very long time. Regarding maintenance, stock will be far less work in the long run.

Now, please forgive me if I state the obvious. :o

With pods you'll need to re-jet due to the increased air flow. If you don't want to spend the money on a jet kit, which takes a lot of the guesswork out of the process, then you'll have to perform plug chops to dial in the jet sizes. Read up about the procedure on my website, see what you think.

A lot of folks say they can figure out the jetting in a couple of hours. I'm not that good. :-k

I'm keeping my stock airbox and exhaust as long as they are serviceable. I have barely enough time to keep a stock machine well maintained. I don't think I'd be able to do a modded machine justice.

Maintaining the pod filters is basically the same as regular air filters. When they get dirty, clean them, let them dry, lightly oil them, put them back on. I have two air filters. When one gets dirty, it takes me 90 seconds to slide in a clean one. After the dirty one gets washed, dried, and oiled, it will go back on the bike when necessary. And the process repeats. Easy peezy. Pods will be a little more trouble.

I'm not saying "Don't do pods". Lots of members here run pods. I'm saying it will be a little more work to dial them in and keep them up. That's all.
