GS700E 122.5 Main Jets

Well, here's a new one on me:

Disassembling my '85 GS700E carbs to clean, inspect, reassemble. On the #2 carb, I found what looks like the main jet with the 'head' gone.

It looks like it must've corroded away. The oddest thing is that the head is NOT in the bowl, nor is the washer that keeps the emulsion tube tight. Hmmm.....

The little piece itself is clean and nice (now) and threads right up in there. If it weren't for the 'holds-the-emulsion-tube' issue, maybe I could just super-glue the thing in place and be good. :D :D

Anyway, anybody got a single spare stock (122.5) main jet? Maybe one of you guys that have jetted up with pods/4-into-1? :)

Sigh.

I might I will check

Hey, that would be great, if you're willing.

I can tell now, it's definitely the stub of the main jet. The picture doesn't show, but the "outlet" side is just like the other main jets. Weird.

Plus, although I haven't had this bike running for me yet (broke cam chain when I bought it), when I pulled the spark plugs way back when the project got started, 1, 3 and 4 were a beautiful tannish brown, and #2 (this one) was black and sooty.

I think the PO just 'glued' the stub back in the tube and ran it. But, the tube must've been loose and gas must've seeped up around it and that cylinder ran rich. Actually, since I found the little stub loose in the bowl, it must've come out and not been in there at all! But, no "bolt head" and no brass washer.

And, to add to the weirdness, I went to Jets-R-Us.com, and they sell both original and knock-off main jets, but they only carry a 122 and then jump to a 125. No "122.5" as these are marked.

I don't suppose there's a WHOLE lot of difference between a 122 and a 122.5...

Thanks,

Kirk

I dont think that is the main jet, where on the carb did you remove it from?

When I took off the #2 carb float bowl, this little nub was 'stuck' in the varnish sludge in the bottom of the bowl. :) :)

At first, it was so varnished that I couldn't tell what it was. After cleaning, it's as you see in the pictures.

Further, there was no main jet screwed into the emulsion tube in this carb as I found it, nor the brass washer that normally fits under the main jet.

I now think it's just the 'remains' of a broken main jet. But, since neither the broken "top" part, nor the brass washer were in the bowl, I think the PO must have put it all back together this way.

Bottom line is, I need a replacement main jet and brass washer. :)
