The bike is looking real nice. Anxious to see the final results. Are you going with a front fender and a rear subfender? The velocity stacks look great, but as I found with my 1000S, the carbs will probably need serious re-jetting for the engine to run at anything other then idle. Mine ran great at idle, even as you revved it, but under load, it fell flat on it's face. Nothing above 3,000 rpm. I'm sure it can be worked out, many have, I just didn't want to deal with it and went back to the stock airbox. Ran perfect right off the bat that way. Doesn't look nearly as cool, though.

Beautiful work

I love the vapor blasting, I've been messing around with that lately

As far as your carb tuning goes, you mention only one of the screws

Fuel "underneath" should be about one turn out

Air "side" should be about 2 turns, then use the high idle method to fine tune

Great job, it looks fantastic!

I like the stacks but not that open rear fender area, looks like a strait shot for water and crap right into your carbs. A well placed sheet metal panel behind the engine will keep the look nice and clean.

Are you going to change that rear brake pedal? Doesn't look like you can use it in that position, unless your ankle is double-jointed. Also, the linkage won't deliver much pressure to the brake without more of an angle.

I guess that will sort out when you put the rear brake on.

Hahah, yes the rear Brake Master Cylinder is not fitted yet so the pedal hangs loose :)

Thanks buddy, I will fit some sort of cut down front mud guard - probably painted black; as for the rear it'll be left minimalist. I've heard mixed results re the bellmouths too... I have jetted to 120's and had a quick fiddle with the settings although will need to get it roadworthy so I can test it under load. I'm prepared to take it to a specialist tuners / rolling road if I can't get it running spot on!!

Damn, that bikes looks fantastic!! can't wait to hear her run.

Cheers bud, video coming soon :D

Cheers buddy, great advice re the carb tuning - I'm a newby to this so will defo be following your recommendations.

What beautiful, beautiful bike!

THANK YOU

THANKS!! All feedback appreciated, although I spent alot of time trying to make the rear end as clean and un-cluttered as possible, I know the rear tyre will more than likely flick crap all up the back end.... although being a fair weather rider hopefully that'll be controllable :o

Your bike is amazing, I'm doing a bunch of work on my 550 and I hope it comes even 1/2 as nice as yours :D. What gauge steel did you use for the underseat pan?

Quick update, not been on here for a while.

Been pondering what to do re the steering lock issue (clip-ons hitting the tank). A few peeps mentioned various ideas including a threaded bolt on the original stop / frame - I'm sure many have made this work however I just couldn't see how this would be strong enough for my application. Dad and I started looking at the upper steering yoke and the possibility of a bracket to control movement using the inside tab which comes off the top of the headstock. After many hours messing about with cardboard templates we managed to cut the bracket from 3mm thick ally, and give it a nice polish up. 2 stainless allen bolts and bobs your uncle, steering lock problem sorted. The underside shot shows how the design works.

Next jobs on the list, front indicators, front/rear brake master cylinder re-furb, billet brake callipers (est March/April), number plate mounting, bar-end mirror, tuning etc etc.....

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE :)

Not sure bud, I think it was 2mm thick?

I don't mind saying, dude, I am SOOOOOO in love with your bike! Doris is everything I hope my build becomes. You've set the bar real high with her, though. Good on you!

A few small updates from this weekend. Continuing with the success of the steering limiter attention was paid to the handlebar area, bar end mirror, gauge wiring and fork brace etc. I've got a new Pingel Petcock valve to fit too... I hear these are quite good.

Today we built up the rear brake master cylinder, managed to get loads of new parts from CMSNL (www.cmsnl.com) ...excellent recommendation!

Any ideas which way the Micron brace is meant to be mounted? I've always thought front facing, but am now having doubts?? :-k

Saving up for new disks and callipers now and I've got some great ideas for some subtle tank decals

Sorted out my cleaning equipment this morning, Doris is due a 'detail' as we approach the end of the build phase..... OCD anyone!!

Worryingly this is only about 75% of what I have :S

Too much chrome and shine for my personal taste, but still an awesome bike. Great build.

That is one stunning bike, congratulations and well done! I hope my build looks that good, I am really tempted to start a thread, but it is early days yet for me. This is great inspiration though.

Cheers pal, I keep telling myself to build something 'dirty' - matt black and mean looking.... but the 'bling' always gets the better of me  Thanks for the feedback

No, man! You nailed it with this build! The "bling" is working! I only hope mine is HALF as nice as yours!
