A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello all,
I tried a search for this info, but either I'm not doing something right or it just isn't in here...

I have a 1980 GS750E in need of a replacement cylinder head. I have located a cylinder head from a 1982 GS750TZ. Will it swap straight out?

I appreciate any help, thanks!!

Jeff

I think they will (no promises). The 80(maybe 81?) engine seems the same up to 83. The 16 Valve engine is what you have, I think. As long as you have 16V to 16V, I think you should be OK.

Yes, it is a 16V. I will give the '82 head a try. Thanks for the reply!

Jeff

It will swap out, and it should give you a slight bump in horsepower. The 82's had a few more ponies that were attributed to a new cam profile (I think) . If you look you'll see that the cam followers are slightly different on the 82. The 80 has one big pad that rides on the lobe while the 82 has two smaller pads. I wouldn't mix valve train parts between the two, so as long as your installing the complete 82 head your OK.
