    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS750 Float height?

Can anyone confirm the float level settings for a '77 GS750? Some sites tell me differing things...
 
Wouldn't these be the same as on the liter bike? Isn't it using the same vm26ss carbs?
 
Hoomgar, yep, same carbs. But, each bike had its own jets of course and I want to make sure that the float settings weren't different.

Keith- I'll just wait on Earlfor to see the post. I'm sure the info will help others out in the future ;-)
 
Well, I guess I will give 24-25mm a shot. If anyone comes across a different answer or can confirm this with a manual, please let us all know.

Well, it all depends on the manual...

25-27 mm .....Factory manual (3rd edition published 12/79)
26 mm .........Clymer 77 750B
23-25 mm .....Clymer 78-79
26 mm..........Haynes
25-27 mm......Chilton

There is also the method that uses a clear tube that screws into the bowl where the drain plug goes. That method measures the actual level of the gas when the carbs are mounted. The factory manual says that the fuel level should be 2.5-3.5 mm below the bottom edge of the carb body where it mates to the bowl.

Isn't that amazing? A difference of as much as 4mm? No way every one of those settings would give good results. Most bikes can handle 1mm up or down from the "perfect" setting.
If you look at those numbers, seems like 25mm or 26 mm would be the best overall setting? My gut feeling still says 24mm but that's just my opinion.
