DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike looks great...I rebuilt my 1977 gs750 a few years back. I'll post some pics of it as I think it looks great...like yours.

D

Coolio, Would like to see pics, did you change the fork to a double disc by any chance?

What did you use on that left side engine (sprocket?) cover? Looks like bed-liner or something. I like the effect and contrast with all that shiny chrome/aluminum.

Its VHT high heat wrinkle finish. Needed to do about 5 yhin coats to get an even wrinkle effect. Not as nasty to deal with as bed liner:)

Watch the fork boots, they are good for protecting tubes but also good for holding dirt/water.

So, it's been a long time since I "finished" the bike...

1. Got married.
2. Moved into a new house (with no garage :( )
3. Got cats...
4. There's a foot of snow on the ground...

SO, the bike itch is hitting me hard.... I've been thinking about the course of this bike for some time now and I really don't want to just up and sell it, but I don't want to spend an arm-and-a-leg putting MORE work into it. SO...

Now that I have it running right, and parts are on order to fix the annoyances (electrical bug, stator cover cracked, etc...) I think I'm going to further the cafe' stance of the bike

- Solo seat.
- Chop rear pegs.
- re-spray it.
- upgrade the front brakes
- drill the rear rotor
- upgrade the shocks

I think that'll put me in a good place with her. More to come, soon!

I just went through your build, nice thread. But I would add some new tires to your list , check the pics in post #121 you'll see the cracks in the side wall of the front tire. Just sayin:)

OH, dude... those tires are history...

I've got shinkos... I think, can't remember and bike is in another town right now...

Question, how did it handle with the E triple tree and the L forks?

It actually has the triple tree off a GS1000 to match the L fork tubes.

Honestly, it handles amazingly. I added a 110mm shim to both forks, over filled the oil with 15w by 20mm, and cranked the rear shocks up to 1 less than full pre-load and I have absolutely NO issues with the way it handles.

Turn in is quick, I haven't bottomed out on anything, and reaction to breaking is great, not a ton of dive.

Holds a corner really well. I'm actually really glad I did it!

Oh, I didn't see where you installed the L triple tree. Just a bunch of wondering about the change in trail. Yea, I was surprised that my GS 1000 handles as nicely as it does. I didn't change anything though just 15W oil and 15lbs of air, 1 click down from full hard, on the shocks with full dampening.
