A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

2 questions:
1983 GS750T starts right up. Runs fine with full choke. Remove the choke and bike won't idle. When riding it runs rough and requires more than 1/4 throttle twist to get any power at all. Stalls at traffic light.
I did remove the throttle grip and installed a new one. Didn't have a problem prior to that.

My tank has a fuel level sending unit. Besides the 2 electrical wires running from it, there is a hose attached to the unit. Is this just a drain hose or does it connect somewhere. I can't find a connection and foolishly didn't pay attention to it when removing the tank.

Thanks for any help you can give.

All you did was change the throttle grip and you have this problem?
This would not cause your problem. I don't know what you could have done to cause this just by taking off the tank.
A few simple checks: does the throttle cable have the correct slack?
Are the 2 float bowl vent lines clear/open and routed without any kinking?
Is the fuel line connected without any kinking?
The vacuum line could have cracked while you took off the tank. This could result in poor fuel flow.
Is the petcock selector pointing to "on" or "res" and not somewhere in between?
The fuel sending unit hose is there as a drain in case of unit gasket failure.
Just make sure it's routed so gas would not spill on the motor.

Petcock vaccum line would be my guess as to what could have gone wrong. The hose from the fuel guage area is just a vent line.

Did you readjust the thumscrew for the idle on the Carbs. It is directly in the middle usually and when you put on new throttle cables you need to adjust this. It is an easy fix that a lot of people miss.
