Open Pipes GS850

Open Pipes GS850

I have dreams Pete of open pipes.....

But maybe they will be just dreams....othere than that I will have to come up with some muffler options that work...
Something like this maybe

Rear Calipers blasted painted and installed

Rear Calipers blasted painted and installed

Running a HEL stainless hose kit with great look gold end fittings! Easy purchase inline however I have found the rear hose is shorter and won't run original line ...easy fix just miss one of the rubber bush cleats and it will fit straight in ....

I like these hoses very much :D

CV32 Pilot jet valves

CV32 Pilot jet valves

I have stripped and rebuilt the carbies again due to them sitting there for way too long for me to be happy about....

I have reinstalled the

200 Air Screw
42.5 Pilot
120 Mainjet

So will be interesting to see how the tuning goes when I finally get there...particular with 200 air screw which seem to get alot of comments.

Any body want to chime in... I will will keep you all informed with the results.

This is the right pilot for the CV's isn't it?

Very nice Simon, looking good!

I say don't go open pipes and get some Dunstall style like that Honda, they look the goods.

Tranzac will make you some nice pipes and he will do a Dunstall end can on it as well if you like, very happy with what he did for me.

What did you paint the calipers with? I used 3M caliper paint from the rattle can and it started to flake off and look 30 years old again as soon as I baked it...

Hi Pete

Calipers were painted and baked with a pot belly paint from Bunnings...simple but effective.
I will post a pic when I have time.
I havent heard of Tranzac..what are their details?

You replaced the stock 160 air jets with 200's? If so, I would think that a 37.5 or perhaps 40 pilot jet would be in order. (Too rich)
Yes, that is the correct pilot jet for the stock carbs.

No they were as found in the carbs...
Apparently this year model may have been brought out with them..?:-k

Sorry, I forgot that you had a Euro/Aussie spec bike. :o I will continue to follow this excellent build and looking forward to seeing/hearing the muffler results.

Ah good stuff, they should hold up to the heat well then! I have a feeling the paint I used wasn't meant for alloy but not really sure... I'll live with it.

How can you be in Brissie and not have heard of Tranzac? Shame on you! :p j/k

He's down at Carbrook and does excellent work http://www.tranzac.com.au/

He made my custom 2 into 1 for the 450 and got it perfectly based on verbal description only. I had left my cardboard mock up at home and didn't have my phone with me so couldn't show him photos.

I never miss an opportunity to show those pipes off :D they're not so shiny now after 2 years of daily use though! They need polishing...

Oh, that's ceramic coating on there rather than chrome too.

Hope you have a great Christmas!

Well this is the uncracked engine the bike came with ....I have done anything to it other than rebuilt the Carbs, new Spark pugs , ignition and leads...
Lets see if she runs..:-\\\

She lives alright Simon, sounds good too!

I got the stainless bolt kit from Z1 over in the US. They probably have a kit ready to go for yours as well, saves going through the fiche and working out all the sizes required.

Very nice man! My mate has the same bike, and he just took the muffler off intermittently and it sounds very good with an open pipe. A great sound and not offensive like mine did when we were putting on new mufflers.

Pete, any idea if the SS bolt kit would be the same for my 400f?

late to the party, but i love this build. i'm planning on going a similar route with my 850. nice work! i'll be following along....

hi growler
there just 1 inch rise standard track bars . you can get them off ebay. cheaper option .
