    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS850 Chopper Project?

Well, this might end up being a short-lived dream, but I have time and would love to get something happening.

I've seen a lot of Honda cb750's and Yamaha 650's online on ebay(Well, not a LOT but enough to perk my curosity) which have been turned into choppers, and look really good. Was wondering if anyone has seen that done to either a GS850 or a GR650(Tempter)? If so, where would one go about getting a frame? I've seen a lot of Triumph chopper frames going up for a few bills at auction, but most of the 'old-school' choppers don't seem to have any frame names. I see 'Amen' out there sometimes when referring to classic choppers from our bike's era's so i was wondering if anyone knew anything about building a chopper, because i'm pretty clueless but wanyt to give it a shot.
 
As i sift through this, for lack of a better decrtiption, congressional-sized forum of untold wisdom, i've run into a second idea. Hacking this GS into a "Streetfighter"? I've seen a -few- pic's of this style, and again, would love some more info on it and how one might go around doing it.

As a side note, i might have an uncle who can fab a frame for me, but if not, can a streetfighter frame be bought? probably not for the money i want to spend :P

THis all hinges on the fact that I can finance the initial purchess, but its soooooooooo close i can taste it. Aren't us first-time owners just goobers?
 
I'd go the streetfighter route - well - that's my preference anyway.
 
Well it has been done before, there was a 850 fighter featured in Streetfighters magazine about a year ago and it looked bloody good but I'll be damned if I can find the article again in the huge pile...had a bigbore, huge carbs and some more go-faster goodies. It did retain the original frame and gastank (although with flush fillercap and breatherhose) but a different subframe-rearend combo and running gear from more up to date bikes. Did I mention it looked very nice :mrgreen: even for a shaftie...
 
I dont think a frame is necessary to make a GS into a streetfighter.

So i've been reading about every thread on the GS Resources with the word 'Streetfighter' in it, as well as spending countless midnight hours online checking out various other sites and their pic's of variosu Streetfighters. The concensus i get is i need a 1000 or 1100 to really get the project going. But, i was thinking of taking either this gs850 i plan on buying saturday, or my GR650, and making either one into a streetfighter.

So, taking all this info into mind, and the general sensory overload from waaaay to much reading, here's what i come to. GSXR front end off a mid-90's model, as well as the rear end. since i have little knowledge about how this all works, i've been looking for perhapse some 'how to build a streetfighter like mine' pages online, but mostly they're all pic's and no substance.

Anyone out there with the know how to convert either a GR650 or GS850 into a Streetfighter, and willing to baby me through the steps if needed, or at least write a pretty comprehensive guide to the process?

As always, i'm impressed with this site on a daily basis. Maybe biker66 has something up his sleeve :D

well, unfortunately www.redneckcycles.co.uk is apparently no more, and they've closed up shop. I saw that particular streetfighter GS850, and I absolutely fell in love with it. unfortunately, with the website's operaters no longer in business, i'm fairly sol :cry:
 
The Streefighter in the photo looks very cool... but a GS850 2 valve motor.... in a streetfighter.. The phrase why bother comes into mind.. How about a 750 Kawasaki 3 cylinder 2 stroke or any 4 valve suzuki engine.. or even a big thumper.. but the 850 great for what it is.. is what it is.. dependable.. comfortable.. and economical
