A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have been searching for new std size piston rings for my Gs850 head that I'm rebuilding. I am having difficulties finding these. My question is, I was thinking where there is manny different models out there that used 69mm pistons. Has anyone on here used rings from a different model and year?

Available anywhere OEM Suzuki parts are sold, including a multitude of online sources. Check the archives here for the opinion of the various US part sources. There are also aftermarket rings available for the 850. One of the few models with such parts availability.

Although this is 2 years old now.... I have used many rings from the ring companies to save mega bucks when purchasing piston rings. There are three measurements you should be aware of. Obviously the first is the bore diameter... the second is the ring thickness, (usually 1, 1.2, 1.6 mm in thickness) And finally the depth. You should get rings that match as closely as possible. You might need to take your pistons into a friendly machine shop and have the ring lands depth machined deeper or in some cases make the ring groove wider to accept a 1mm ring (Honda Shadow 750 OEM is a .8mm thickness.) I have machined those pistons to accept a 1mm ring. So instead of paying 80 dollars for a set of OEM Honda rings, I pay 22 dollars for 4 rings. Enough to do two Shadow 750 bikes. Or 11 dollars each compared to 80 dollars. And you often have a better choice of ring materiel.
