    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Was gonna take it for a quick burn up the road this morning before work to see how it felt but battery was dead :-(

That's what I get for constantly starting it and turning the key on for the past 3 weeks. Anyway, it's on the charger now.

However, the battery that's in it is not the correct one. It's too small. Can anyone recommend the proper sized battery for this bike that's reasonably priced?

Check your manual: the OEM part number is YB14L-A2. If you google that, you'll find that it's still sold by Yuasa and that it cross-references to a gazillion others as well. Almost any auto parts store probably carries them and you'll probably even find them at Walmart. I bought mine at Sams Club with the model number 14LA2. Try to find one with the best warranty.

Many members here are fond of AGM batteries as well. They last longer, are sealed, and can go all winter without topping up the charge. They are more expensive, but the price has been coming down.

Grabbed my Helmet and decided to do a short ride today and see if any gremlins appeared. Well that didn't take long. Got about 1000 feet from my house at a stop sign and it stalled (need air box boots and to seal the airbox). Then I went to hit the start button and nothing happened.

After waving a car around me, I tried a couple more times and if finally went. During all of this the choke somehow got jammed. Rode back down the street to my house to investigate. I have no idea what the heck happened to the choke cable but it was jammed up. Choke on the carbs was fine. Pulled the cable off my parts bike and VIOLA, fixed that problem. As for the starting problem, I cleaned up some connections I thought could be suspect and it fired right up. As it appeared to be an intermittent problem I won't know if that took care of it or not for while.

Air box boots and weather stripping are on my to do soon list so this bike won't be so "cold blooded". Then this fall I'll tear down the carbs and rebuild them.
 
I don't think I have an electrical problem for the starter....I think I'm just an idiot. Apparently you can't start the bike with the clutch in even if you're in neutral? Old habit from my dirt bike days...always pulled the clutch in to start.

Anyway, started it up today let it run for a few minutes on choke. Take choke off, dies. After a bit I was able to keep it running but I would roll on the throttle and it bogs way down and eventually dies.

I knew I had a problem with air leaks, but was hoping it would at least run enough to ride it a bit to see if there are any other problems. Guess not.....soooooo

I went to Z1 and ordered a new set of airbox boots which will hopefully be here by friday. I'm on vacation starting tomorrow and I'd really like to ride a little bit. I'm also going to pick up some weather stripping to seal my airbox covers.

Do my symptoms sound like classic air leaks? Hoping that's all it is. I'd like to put off the carb rebuild til fall when I store the bike in my basement and can work on it at my leisure.

EDIT - decided to perform a little test.....started the bike and sprayed carb and choke cleaner at the airbox boots and she revs right up so I'm sure that's the problem, or at least a big part of it. Hope my boots come quick!!!

My airbox boots came from Z1 yesterday. Super fast shipping, kudos to them. I was able to get them on today and the bike runs a ton better but still needs work to be where it should be. Will seal up the airbox covers next. Planning a full tear down and rebuild of the carbs this fall so I'll replace the o-rings and carbs boots at that time. For now, I'm ok letting it warm up a few minutes before I ride it.

No pictures of the boot install but my wife snapped this one of my daughter "riding" my bike while I worked on my son's dirt bike.
