    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am intrested in a engine swap to 1100. I would like buy the engine and fix it then install. What should I keep in mind while doing this and what is a reasonable price for a nitrous kit.

A swap from an 850G to an 1100 motor is really not worth the effort as most of the swap would require considerable fabrication on your part & what you would have is the "old-style" suspension with the monster motor. But the real killer is the shaft drive, getting it to work would be almost impossible..It really sounds like you should move up to the whole 1100 machine...you could have your 850 for touring and an 1100 for ripping up the streets..best of both worlds. And, and finding a whole 1100 motor would be very difficult, but here at GSR you have the best chance of finding one.

i have an 1150es 84 model that would be perfect for that project u can ride it home it is in great shape new tires good paint stock mufflers. by the time u,ve rode it home u,ll have forgot all about that engin swap .because u,ll have one of the top superbikes that a lot of fellow gsrs will foam at the mouth to have probly won,t need the nos either just a thought 3500.00 and a bus ticket to florida
 
I beg to differ, I have heard the gs1100 motor will basically drop right into the gs850 frame. Hence bolth are shafties, I accually recall someone saying stock motormounts would work. Do some searching on this site, I'm sure there's quite a few threads on it. I thought about the option for my 850 but at the moment I am throwing cams in, port/polish, and alreddy equipped with UNI filter, and pipes. Plenty of power for me.-darren

Darren, I have a stock GS850G and would like to know what cams, pipe, ect you are using and how the project comes out. If you can post here is this thread or PM me. Would be great to see how this works out.
 
I have mine setup for more of a cruiser looking bike, so I went for more of a hod rod stock car kind of rumble. Left the stock headers and midpipe on, cut off the mufflers, and bought 2 megaphone style mufflers off ebay for a total of like $100, got them, gutted them, and made them into straight through glasspack style mufflers.. Then the as for the cams, turns out (I guess I am the 1st to try) gs1000 cams work for our motors, the 2 valve type gs1000 ofcourse. The stock cams are identicle right down to the duration and such, so, luckily I found a set of old Andrews cams off ebay for a gs1000 for $50! I got the cams last sat. found out that the exhaust lobe was worn down, so I got a refund from the guy, then sent the exhaust cam to Web-Cam, to get it referbished, should cost around $70! So a total cost of $20, I'm pumped. Then I also ported and polished it. I'll make sure to do an update when I get her back together.-darren

The big shafties -- the 850G, 1000G, and 1100G models -- will interchange engines.

You can't just swap in a chain drive engine because the frames and drivetrain are different. There's also no overlap with the major parts of the 650G shafties.

I believe you'll need the carbs from the bigger engine (can you rejet 850G carbs for the 1000G and 1100G, or are they different carb bodies?) and usually the driveshaft, but they pretty much bolt right in.

Some here have accomplished these swaps -- I've only thought about it.
