    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ive not started a fresh build since ive been a member here so thought i'd show you how i go about things in pics & a few words with this latest project, i'm not sure what engine will end up in this yet as finances are not great but it will be suzuki either air cooled or oil cooled, whatevers cheapest once the chassis is sorted :D

I started with a very badly modified gsx1100 frame & proceded to remove all the crap untill i was left with a bare frame, no subframe or shock mounts etc

heres a pic of some of the bits i removed :eek:

Next up was making a monoshock mount as i knew by that time that i was going in that direction :D

The grey ally mount is from a slingshot gsxr & is bolted via welded in crush tubes to some sturdy seamless tube

After doing a decent deal with a mate against one of my other projects i ended up with a gsxr wp front end complete :D

much to my surprise this bolted straight in using the same bearings, none of the usual messing with stems etc :D

gsxr ws swingarm this was a little involved to get fitted in the frame as the bearing centres had been previously modified to fit something else, i eventually found some stock centres & after much messing around found some bushes that fitted both the stock centres & the pivot pin, i also had to sleeve the center crush tube down to 16mm

tight fit & i'll have to do without dust covers untill i can get a little machined off the arm but its in & working :D

I modified the tank to accept the neck for a flush filler cap :)

this was a complete days work to get it to this stage :oops:

Yesterday i made a pair of bottom shock linkage mounts found a bandit shock & linkage amongst my parts & fitted those along with the top mount i'd made up a few days ago :D

This his how it stands today, i'm fairly happy with the way its gone so far & look forward to seeing your coments

Tone that is lookin sweet bro :) Gonna be a bad ass flicker when you're done I do believe. Id like to see some of the process on that tank, as i have some spare 750 tanks around, and it would be cool to use a flushmount on the cafe project. Is that all built up with body filler or what??

Heres a bit more info on the tank mod for the cafe kid, sorry i didnt think to take photo's :oops:

The filler neck was roughly cut from in this case a yamaha tank (best thing for it lol) you have to remember to also cut out the drain tube which takes water from the cap to the bottom of the tank somewhere

Next thing was to take the gsx tank back to bare metal a good distance from the area to be worked on & very carefully mark out the hole to be cut, i drilled it & cut it out with a jigsaw slightly undersized then finished it to a nice fit by hand

the yam neck was trimmed back to 10mm from the edge to leave a nice overlap to weld in & a hole was drilled in the bottom of the gsx tank for the drain tube

Once happy with the fit i welded it all up & gave it small a smear of filler & a sand to smooth the weld

i'll finish sanding, seal it & paint it once i've finished the rest of the bike as theres nothing as bad as chiping a freshly painted tank when doing other work

i'm not quite sure i understand the question mate :oops: if its about the wheel alignment ive not done it yet as i still need a rear wheel to fit the arm, the one in the pic is just slopped in so i can roll it about, i'll be sure to let you know how i get on with that one when i get to it :D

I thought maybe you had the wheel lined up.I was asking about the spacer that goes between the wheel hub and sprocket.I am having a hard time trying to figure out the size i need to stop the chain from rubbing.

Ahh the internal spacer between the sprocket carrier & wheel hub ?

I always use the one that comes with the carrier or one of exactly the same length & OD as changing these can cause early wear on the bearings, ive had a couple made before with a smaler bore when fitting late wheels to older arms but they are always the correct length etc

Have you sussed the required amount of offset required for your countershaft sprocket? No chain to swingarm clearance issues?
 
I never got the spacer for it ;(..I had one made but i don`t think it is big enough.I am trying to see what others have used and go from there.I only need about 2 to 3mm to stop from rubbing.Iam worried that the wheel will not be centre?.

hiya 80gs i wondered when you'd pipe up mate :)

Ive not looked at the chain alignment in any detail yet, wheels first then chain after lol ive not even got an engine for it yet so all thats still up in the air at the moment but from experiance there wont be any major hassle getting things lined up & if there is a problem i'll suss it easilly enough i expect :D

ive done very similar a few times now & not had any real problems that cant be sorted with a little carefull measuring & a bit of fabrication ;)

rotty you need the right spacer for your wheel mate :eek:

kichigai thanks for the offer mate but a 5/8 ofsett usually causes more problems than it solves from memory thats near 16mm, putting the chain close to the frame, think the last ofsett i used was nearer 12 mm so i'm guessing this one will be similar, whatever happens the chain run WILL end up central in the gap between the frame & tyre because anything else just looks wrong to me

lets hope i dont have to eat my words on that one lol
 
It sounds like going to a 5/8 offset will cause me some problems with my chain rubbing the frame..i had front and rear sprocket made.. i was told to do this.. i can see the way things are now my chain will hit with the 5/8 off set.. do you think for my 83 gs750 i should go to a smaller off set?.i don`t want to notch my frame.. if u think it would help i need to know so i can get another made.. it takes a while for the guy to make it.
 
You had to get a sprocket made?? AFAM makes several different sizes., including my 13mm. Sprockt Center got it for me in just a couple of days.

Sorry buddy but dont have a clue what size you need to use for your 750.
