If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi guys, I'm somewhat new to the forum. I was a member in the past, but I wound up parting ways with my 750t back in 2002. Well, in 2005, it came back into my hands and I finally (shame) got around to getting it running a few weeks ago. I am really excited about it because it hasn't really been run since 1999. I rebuilt the carbs (thanks to the concise info at gsresources) and put some new tires on it and she's doing okay, but the carbs still need a sync job. I'd forgotten how much I like this bike.

Here's the question(s): I had an accident on the bike in 1996 and broke the glass in the speedometer. The original speedo had a 140mph speedo with the side stand indicator in it. I have found that these in 1982 were quite rare since most of them had 85mph ones in them. I came across a used one from a GS?00 that was only an 85 mph that was functional, but it didn't have the side stand indicator in it. I just let the bulb hang outside the guage (really redneck but functional). Like a retard, I threw away the original not realizing that I could have swapped the guts into the 85mph one.

The other day I acquired a GS450L (1985) set (140mph w sidestand indicator) which is physically a bit different (the case) than the 75oT set, but it looks like it will bolt up. Does anybody know if these will hook up electrically okay? The other question is can I swap the guts from the 450 into the 750 case I have now? I'd like to keep it as original as possible if I can. It's not planned to be a show bike by any means, but I'd like when a Suzuki nut looks at it they don't say "hey, those are the wrong guages". I'm just weird like that.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!

If you live in the US, your '82 would have had a 85 MPH speedo from new. Someone much have changed yours if it had a 140mph speedo.

I've often wondered if the guts from one speedo could be transplanted from one unit to another - my own '82 850 has a flaky speedo. Why not give it a try and report back? You can crack open the speedo by carefully bending the metal tab on the bezel - work around the unit with a screwdriver and pry the lip of the bezel.

Good luck.

I always wondered about the 140mph speedo because it was the only one I had seen. However if you look at the parts fiche at promotorsports.com, it shows this 140mph speedo as the correct guage. I wonder.

85 mph speedo requirement was the law back then. My '82 850 has an 85 mph speedo.

What about 1983?

What about 1983?

Check this out...confounds me. This is from the prosourcemotorsports.com site. It's blurry, but you can definitely make out 70mph at the 1 o'clock position. Maybe the old guage read 120 because that's what this shows. Hmmm.

BTW, those prosourcemotorsports guys are great! Lots cheaper than the dealer and better parts availability.

I have tried different gauge sets on my 650, some with fuel gauges, and I even ran a 750L guage set for a while. The only difference I found was the fuel gauge and additional light for it. You can push the pins out of connectors with a toothpick if you need to move wires around.

I found the mounts were a little different but made an adapter easily enough

My '83 has the 140 as you would expect. This link indicates a spedo set to 85mpg yet list the set from an '83. I think the seller got it wrong, yet there might be something for you here.

I finally found what I was looking for after I bought another set with an 85 mph speedo! I broke down and bought it because at least it had the side stand illumination in it.

Another guy this week finally put up the 140 he had on ebay. This seller claims it came from an 83, and I believe him as he had the different color tank originally for sale which we know is different than the 82 paint scheme. I guess the original owner of my bike swapped this part out.

Here's another one for you! My bike has Yamaha mirrors on it. It has what at least appears to be the stock master cylinder, but correct me if I am wrong here....Yamahas have the threads reversed on the rh mirror. This is consistent with the Yamaha mirrors on my bike....How can the master cylinder be the correct part with those reversed threads? Too weird.
