DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Question is, should I reused the ones that are on there when I replace the valve cover gasket, or is it prudent to buy new ones? They are a little pricey. Can I get away with just putting some permatex around them? Thanks!

Dave

Some have had luck with a little "glue"...while others buy new and they still fall out. If they are still flexible and soft, put them back in.

You can re use them.
Make sure that the are clean and the sealing area is clean then put a lttle smear of sealer on the sealing surfaces.
You will be good to go.

You'll have problems getting to seal with a "realgasket" if you have removed them. With stock or other paper gasket you'll be fine.

What, and where, is Z1? Thanks for your indulgence.

Call them & order new aftermarket ones, cheap & good - I've used several sets with no problems...

Clean the aluminum half-moon portion on the head well (I use a fine grit sandpaper to lightly clean off the old grunge), then apply a light layer of Permatex #2 gasket sealer. Push in the new half-moon & put a nice, new OEM valve cover gasket on. Install valve cover and you're good to go.

I got a full set of SGP (Suzuki Genuine Parts) cam plugs for $15 through my local bike shop (Not the Suzuki dealer, they wanted more)

Do the aftermarket plugs have a metal core like the SGP ones?

I ordered a set from Z1. I'd rather get new ones, but I didn't want to spend over $20 a piece which is what Old Bike Barn was charging. Thanks for the heads up, and all the advice guys!! Mucho appreciated!!

Dave

Mine were still pliable, but for some damn reason I couldn't budge them. Since I didn't have any spares on hand, I elected to let them stay put, and just used some Permatex on the top of it. They weren't leaking to begin with, and still aren't, after having the valve cover on and off about half a dozen times since then. Your mileage may vary, but I figured I'd add what data I could.

I think Old Bike Barn is in the dead beat forum
That wouldn't surprise me because I ordered a set of grips from them at the beginning of September, and haven't seen them yet. I've sent them emails twice asking about it and they have yet to respond. I'll never do business with them again.

I would suggest that you remove Old Bike Barn from your shopping lists.

I think you have already figured out why. :o

.

Yeah, no doubt. I ordered the same grips from them once before and I don't remember it taking this long the last time. I just went to their website and filed yet another complaint. We'll see if they respond THIS time.
