A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i changed the springs and plates on my gs11e, and now the clutch lever is hard as hell, i didn't use HD springs?, is this normal

what kind did you use?
aftermarket?
I have carbon kevlar plates and performance so called 20% stronger springs in my bike and it almost takes two hands to squize the clutch lever in.
I have talked to people experianced with clutches and they said the heavy springs are only needed for high horsepower racing, stock spring work just best for street use.

Re: hard clutch lever

The clutch lever on my 85 1150E is a quick, two finger blip to operate. Stock and clutch slip is zero. (vesrah linings)

stiff clutch springs

stiff clutch springs

on your stiff springs,
i changed out mine in my bike because they were so stiff that it eventually broke the cable, the new springs were atleast a half inch longer than the ones that were it it so check your spring length and how hard one is to compress in your hand youll be able to tell if something is wrong

85 gs700e

Not sure of the other bikes but the 2V GS1000 uses softer springs than the 2VGS750

I actually changed out the clutch friction plates and springs on my GS550 from whatever the previous owner had to a set of Vance and Hines plates and springs... The diffrence was like night and day... The vance and hines springs were of smaller diameter and "weaker" than what was in there.

the set the previuous owner had in it was a wonder he could use his left hand at all.. I was seriously thinking I was doing damage to my hand trying to pull the clutch in. That was after we had oiled the cable and loosened it as much as we could...

I got the Vance and Hines kit off E-bay for 20$... there are other sets out there that are just fine too... I've seen people say good things about the vesrah kit as well.
