Head bolt orings

Does anyone know what size the orings that go on those two cylinder head bolts are? I'm going to open it up yet again to see if I could cork this annoying drip.
Im guessing removing the bolts won't harm the head gasket as long as nothing actually moves.

I know the ones but any seal place should have a set. As long as there snug and still sit proud of the "nut" #17 in workshop manual but doesnt give you the size.

Thanks Dave, those are the ones. I put a new head and base gasket on my bike about five years ago; but guess what I didn't install new :o. The leak isn't a horrible one, but no leak is good. If I shove a piece of rag in that vicinity, I can stop the leak for about an hour, but that's not even a band-aid fix.

Which models have those? I don't remember anything like that on the '78 or '79 GS1000 models. Thanks for the education. Ray

I'm sure you're right, and I have a few sources I can think of; but they're usually closed at the same times I get to work on the bike.
I'm still somewhat new to the concept of planning ahead.

I would think they are rated for high temp.

Must be a 16V thing.:-s

Yep, and only 2 head nuts have the o rings.

Geez...I dont have a caliper at home :o. Look to be about .880 OD

Let me look at a MS cross reference.....

Thank you Dave! You really helped me out - great pics. As it works out, I drive within a mile of the Chicago area McMaster Carr warehouse on my way home from work everyday.

I'm seeing 13/16" OD on your pics; But as the Irish carpenters I used to work with would say - What's a 1/16 of an inch in a big country like this?

First off, they are head NUTS! Second, you need to get the stock SUZUKI orings as they are designed for the heat they will get. Third, put some grease around them when you re-install the nuts. Clean the hole they come out of very good before re-installation. Take out & replace ONE AT A TIME so you don't affect the head torque. 90% of the 16 valve 1100 head leaks are those 2 orings! Ray.

Viton O-rings will withstand the heat, but small dimensional differences between the OE parts and aftermarket may result in leaks.

Instead of using that photo to size the O-ring I'd measure the ID in the hole and OD at the base of the groove and then see what kind of O-rings you can come up with. You want a small amount of stretch to install the O-ring into the groove, and also some crush when the nut is installed.

I stand corrected - they look nothing like bolts. Just typing and not thinking. Too many small blocks I guess.

I agree, I should get Nut (almost wrote bolt again) off and measure.
I can bring them too a industrial supplier around the corner and see if they could match them up in viton - which I'm sure they could. Or I could, as Ray said, just go to the Suzuki dealer and spend a mere $2.

Sorry, the pic sux for measurements but Im familiar with oring sizes.

Its a -115. Equates to the measurements posted. The stock orings are probably the same parts from 1982. They have come along way since then with manufacturing materials. The posted orings are teflon (PTFE). Look at the temp range. These orings I got from Slozuki look like hardware store parts.

This of course is just my humble opinion ;).

Ray, my Valve cover is off (Valve adj) . Im changing the 2 orings. Should I do anything to the other head bolts / nuts ? Re torque ? I have new tach drive seals. Anything else to look for while shes opened up ? Thanks......

Pretty amazing what those 2 little o-rings do.

Thought I had a head gasket leak for sure but 2 new o rings on those nuts and clean engine. :o

Dave, you can check the head torque if you want but if it's got over 10 thousand miles on it already it shouldn't be an issue. Ray.

Mine had a twisted crank back in 1983 so it was opened up and the crank was replaced. Would they (he) have loosened the head bolts to do the crank ?
