A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, so how is this done? Motor cold? Hot?
To what poundage? All the same? A certain patern?
Thanks!!:D

STONE cold.

Now, which bike?

Go to Basscliff's site and download a manual!

I dont see a manual for my bike at Bikecliff and would like to re-torque my head to see if it might help with a small oil leak. Whats the skinny on re-torquing a head ?

The manual for your bike is listed here - download for free:

Always a bit hit and miss re-torquing your head - in theory you should never do it though some manuals suggest that you should check it regularly (?). To get an accurate reading you need to have good lubrication on the threads (3 in 1 or similar oil suits) and this poses the difficulty as you can't really lube (and clean) the threads without removing the nuts.

When I've done this on the past I've got away with undoing the nut 1/4 - 1/2 turn, squirting in some WD40 and re-torquing. Only do one nut at a time and I'd suggest following the pattern shown in the manual. Don't be tempted to over-torque.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Wally did the leak become worse in any of the times you tried or did didn't work just mean it was no improvement?

Dan :)

Dan,
never made it worse immediately though I wouldn't right it off from helping speed up it getting worse on a couple of occasions - guessing as I can't be sure.

Never worked at all for bad leaks (well, might have made them 'less bad' but it's all relative) and I'd guess around a 50% success rate out of around 50 times for minor leaks. (Though some of those times would, I'm sure, have been where the head was incorrectly torqued in the first place).

the head-nut torque order is stamped on the head, in some cases at least
