    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Head light problem

I have '78 GS750 getting it ready for a M.O.T i noticed i was missing a park light bulb,on further investigation there were no wires or bulb holder.
in the manual i have(for the year before) in the wiring diagram there is no park light , but in the assembly drawing for the head light there was a park light, also i have no switch for one either, my question is should there be one and do i need it for a M.O.T?

any help appreciated
 
posting on this mostly to bump it , but I dont believe park lamps are mandatory.I cant remember having to demonstrate that they worked, wheras I do remember having to show that the horn and brake worked.

here in ohio,unless they've changed it, you dont have to have turn signals, as long as you use hand signals,so I am pretty sure a park lamp is optional. :)

the park feature on my bike is a key position, and its entirely possible your park function would work on the running lamp side of your brake light bulb as well. try moving the key to various positions and see.

edit-just read your post again and saw you meant in the headlamp- that cant be required by law-most bikes I ever had did not use a front park lamp at all.
 
Head light problem

Just MOT'd my '79 850 and it initially failed due to a faulty parking light in the headlamp. Quick bulb change cured it.

According to the tester, you do need to have a parking light for an MOT in the UK.

On mine, the parking lights are accessed by depressing the ignition key and turning it fully clockwise. There is no independant switch that controls the parking lights.

Have another look at your headlamp. Pre 1980 models (not sure of the actual year) used a non-quartz headlamp bulb and had a hole in the reflector for a parking light. Later models used either a sealed beam unit or a replaceable QI bulb. In these cases, there was no hole in the headlamp reflector, but an area (about the size of a 10p piece) which was not silvered and the parking light sat behind this in a holder that was an extension of the headlight plug.

Orgis, is your bike a USA model? That light is not required here so it's not installed.

the bike is an import but i dont know where from it doesnt say in the log book

i dont have wires or a connection for the park bulb in hte headlight but i do have a hole/place for one,but the previous owner has plugged it,

think ill just take it as is and see what happens on the M.O.T
