A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thats a hell of an idea Dan! i may do that instead of the clamps...would look a lot more 'rod i think...

You need the thick stuff, even the earth wire which was thinner was subject to breaking.

This should be the stuff. Think the copper core is 2.5mm. Sounds about right from memory. You must have a US equivalent. The cables should be thicker here with the lower voltages.

Dan :)

Good step by step Bubba! I didnt do exactly that, as my wrap i had no prob keeping tight..i did wet it afterwards however, and yes it does stink..smells kinda like wet dog a lil bit. I would like to UNwrap that girlie tho..hehehe

Sorry for chiming in late here, but you guys are missing a big part. They sell a header-wrap spray / coating that seals water out of the material.

Thermo Tec 12001 - Thermo-Tec Hi-Heat Coating:
Specially formulated to protect exhaust insulating wrap. Withstands temperatures up to 2000?F and not only improves header wrap appearance, but extends its life!

Find it here: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_17174_-1

The beauty of this is it also paints the exhaust wrap a black'ish gray color. The white just looks goofy in my opinion, so this fixed it nicely.

Can't even tell it's there!

Last, I used the high-temp metal zip ties to hold the wrap in place. It never loosened, never moved.

also...

I have about 30-40 feet of 1" exhaust wrap leftover from this project. I used just a smidge over one roll of 50 feet, and had the to save. Someone here could use it to finish their project...it's gray in color. I'll let it go for $10 and shipping.

Hey Adam, yeah i had seen that spray, havent used it but it does look as if it comes in handy. How much did it run you? And where did you find the metal zip ties, ive looked everywhere parts wise localy and no one seems to carry them (or know if they carry them)

Thanks
Josh

I linked everything above my friend. :) I used Jegs when I ordered it years ago...they still carry everything.

My header wrap is starting to fray. Honestly tho with all the polished work on my GK the frayed exhaust just looks like a badass. Glad I did it and will do it on another bike but it does stink. Especially when the carbs leak down on it and the wrap gets soaked in has before you ride haha.

If you used the exhaust wrap coating as mentioned above, you wouldn't have fraying!
