A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I opened up my headlamp and disconnected the light (I was replacing the ignition switch). When I replaced it, the headlamp didn't work, and the "high beam" indicator was on no matter what setting I was in. In addition, the left turn signal's funky -- when pressed, the indicator lights up (without blinking), but the signal lights turn off fully, I.E, no blinking at all. Any thoughts?

Hi,

It's possible that in all the activity the filament got broken. That would mean a new bulb is necessary. Clean all the connections and check for broken wires inside the connectors. Keep us informed.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

General rule of thumb ... when electrical stuff is doing funny things, it's a bad ground. Check all the connections in the area where you were working.

The headlamp was simply a wire that had pulled itself out of the headlamp. But the turn signal... It's not making a clicking noise or lighting up! Ahhh, what do I do?

Try honking the horn and flashing the brake lights.

Yeah. Really. I'm not kidding. :o

The turn signals, horn and brakes share the same fuse. If at least one of them works, it's not the fuse. :D

If the fuse is OK, grab a wiring diagram and start following wires.
But, ... before you grab a wiring diagram, you had better figure out what bike you have. You haven't told us yet, so we don't know if you know, either.

Oh, well, that's not difficult. It's a 1980 GS1000GT. It ain't the fuses so I guess I'll start following wires...

OK, your turn signals are powered by the third fuse, if that helps.

By the way, this is why we suggest to all the new guys:

put your bike in your signature so you don't have to remember to mention it every time you ask a question, and ...

also put your location in your profile. Someone might be close enough to you to offer to help.
