    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The PO had painted the chrome ring for the headlight. I thought about replacing the ring, then I thought, what if I just replaced the entire unit with the 8" stock headlight. That's right, the train headlight. Bigger light, easier to see, right? I also think there is plenty of space for it under the gauges. I think it would fill in some empty space in that area.

I searched the forums for headlights and read quite a few. I'm guessing I'll need new headlight mounts to accomodate the larger 8" bucket. Or will the 7" mounts take a 8" bucket without any undue bending or mods to the mounts ?

I took some pics too. I have bucket wiring upgrade surgery on my winter to do list.

I like the 8" train headlight .. almost as much as the saxy 1980-1981 rectangular one :)
 
when you find the 8inch headlight, find 2 so i can have one. i love that headlight.
 
I happened to come across this GS1100 headlight bucket yesterday. I thought it unusual, because it is chromed (the stock items were all black, AFAIK). Anyway, if it is in fact an 8" headlight bucket (he has listed a part #), it might look sharp on your 'L'.

I highly recommend using a Silverstar H4 (Osram, preferably) in the train light housing....I think you will like it. ;)

You should check out some after market light buckets and lenses, you should be able to get a complete assembly for around $70 CAD. Probably far cheaper in the states.
the old bucket and the separate lens will be over $80 not including shipping from ebay.

but in an 8" though?
 
Just so you know, the stock 8" headlight used on the GS700/1100/1150 E is 5 7/8" deep. Other than the rear mounting tab on the linked one, the rear profile is very similar as well. I just measured the headlight I took off my 700 when I converted it from E to ES configuration.


And it's not for sale.....
 
If you're after more light, drop in an H4/9003 Sylvania Silverstar from any auto parts store and ride happy. Both the existing headlight on your bike and the 8" train headlight use the same H4 bulb and put the same number of photons on the road.

If you're just after the look of the giant headlight, then never mind... carry on. :-\\\

On a more realistic note, I probably have an H4 sitting in my tool box.
