If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Headlight size designation?

The bucket for my headlight is cracking around the mounting holes for the bulb/ring and is in real need of replacement. I have been looking around for new buckets and right now it looks like it would be cheaper to replace the whole headlight assembly. The problem I am having is finding anything that denotes the headlight size on my bike? Do you measure between mounting points? Across chrome securing ring? or just the glass itself?

I'd be glad for any help, because I'm hoping to take a 360 mile road trip at the end of the month, and I don't wont the bucket to fall apart going 65mph on the Interstate miles and miles from home.

Thanks for any help!

Ben

The lamp / reflector assembly can be removed from the housing and replaced. It should be a lot less expensive to do this rather than replace the whole assembly. Replacement lamps are out there, I've sold used ones over the years for around $20-$25 and I would think you could find one in that range. There are several makes available, Stanley comes to mind.

Standard sizes are 7" round, 6x8" rectangular and for the 82-83 GS1100E 9" round. I believe yours is the 7" round?

good luck

Not sure if the 550 wore a full-size light or not, but the standard light is a 7" light. Measure the glass only.

Oh, and a "360 mile road trip"???

I think he needs to replace the bucket, not the lens and reflector.

Assuming you have a round headlight (don't remember on your model, don't feel like looking it up...), all the 7" headlight buckets I've seen are that crappy black plastic, and the 5-3/4" are chrome.

So if it's cracking, I'd say that mean you have a plastic 7" headlight.

You'd want the one with the 8mm mounting holes. This is what's on my GS850G.

I know, I know, I've only been riding fo a year now and wanted to get my skill level up before I attempted a longer interstate ride with heavy traffic, so cut me a break! :D

yeah its the plastic bucket that needs replacing, sorry for the vague description. I think I have found one on ebay that is in good shape that I'll try to nab.

So Thanks all for the willing help!
