    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Heat sink cooler?

Has anyone tried a heat sink oil cooler on their GS?

What would be the pros or cons of it over a plate or tube & fin cooler?

I was considering getting one but wanted to ask around first. I don't sit in a lot of traffic and not super hot where I live but do run in the 70-90deg range all summer. The stock gauge has climb up around the 300 deg mark before on a hot day sitting at a light but doesn't happen very often. Also don't know how accurate the gauge is.

Why do you feel that you need to cool your heat sink? :-k



I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are trying to cool your oil. :rolleyes:

ANY kind of cooler is a "heat sink" cooler, so what specific kind of cooler are you asking about? :confused:

OK, in your original post, you only said you wanted to cool your heat sink, you said nothing about using a heat sink-type OIL cooler. :p
I see that you have now gone back and edited that.

I am not all that much into using oil coolers, but I can't imagine why that type would be any more efficient than the standard tube-and-fin type. Cooling ability is a function of surface area and temperature difference. Since the temperature difference between oil and the surrounding air won't change from one type of cooler to another, you are left with surface area. Lots of smaller tubes with oil going through them will have more surface area than a single large tube, which is what the "heat sink" type appears to be. If it is something more than that, please educate me. :o
