A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hella Headlights

I have only seen brief mentions of people using Hella headlights in their GS buckets so I was wondering if I ordered something like this Hella 7" H4 light:
http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-002395991-Type-Single-Headlamp/dp/B0002M9QJM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If it would fit in a normal 7" motorcycle headlight bucket like this one on Z1:

Thanks,
Logan

It would fit and it would work, but the light pattern would be optimized for a car.

Hella does make a motorcycle lamp and they are high quality

The Bosch one should be OK

I'll bet you could get your local auto parts store to order you one

I use the Candlepower reflector and have been very happy with it, so that or the Bosch would be fine.

I also am about to make the conversion from the old sealed beams to something that lights up the road in front of me alot better. This thread has been very helpful.

i used the hella and a hid conversion, works awesome, dont listen to the hid haters,

I just got a link, I think it is for a dual head lights in a car, you only use one of the plugs I got a 35 watt, 5000 candle power, it has the most natural light. I like them so well I put a set in my old toyota truck.

5000 cp...nice....what selection for the bulb...H4? going to read on wiki about them so i will have a better understanding about these unless you can give a down right quick.

Personally, I would prefer the Hella setup, just make sure it's the E-code version AND for right-hand drive. :o

I have a Hella 200mm rectangular light in Junior and it works very well.

I have Candlepower lights in the other two 850s in the stable. They work well, too, but I like the Hella a bit better.

The BEST light I have ever had on a bike (excepting my Wing) was a Cibie, back in the late '70s. It also had that disclaimer "Not DOT approved, except for motorcycles and off-road vehicles." Don't worry about that disclaimer, unless you live in a state with very strict inspections.

I also wouldn't sweat the details over a light that is "not optimized for motorcycles". Most of the stock 'motorcycle' lights I have seen had a bit of a 'bow-tie' effect in the light pattern, which tends to light up the shoulders a bit more than straight-ahead. I find that a bit annoying, since I would really rather go straight ahead, right into the dark spot.

.

will keep that in mind also Steve before i make a decision.

I bought the hella h4, then bought conversions for them.

finally now i get it....i can get the hella and if i decide i want more light just do the conversion. Thanks you guys for bringing me up to speed on these lights.
